    • A tape transport mechanism has a device for reversing the direction of tape transport, which pivots the head mounting plate so that either one of two pressure rollers pinches the tape against a respective capstan. The head mounting plate is guided by systems of guide pins engaging guide slots, each of the systems having at least one corresponding pin and slot to each side of a magnetic head, in the direction of a line between the two capstans. At least one guide slot to each side of the head has two legs or branches, one of which is shorter than the other. A control device causes a guide pin to one side of the head to be in the short leg or branch, while the guide pin to the other side of the head is in the long leg or branch, the head plate then pivoting about the guide pin which is in and abuts the end of the short leg or branch.

    • A mechanism for switching from one operating function to another upon stoppage of tape movement, including a switching wheel which is driven continuously during operation and actuates a switching member, and a connecting member which moves in the same given direction for releasing a cassette and for reversing a direction of tape travel. A tape stoppage detection means controls the position of the switching member with respect to the switching wheel. The connecting member is latched in a position corresponding to movement of the head mounting plate toward the cassette, and is unlatched either by the switching member upon tape stoppage, or depression of a stop button to permit the head mounting plate to return to a withdrawn position away from the cassette.

    • For automatically completing insertion and ejection of a magnetic-tape-cassette into a holder, an actuating rod carries a pin which engages a slot in an insertion/ejection lever. During insertion of a cassette into a holder, pivoting of the lever causes relative movement of the pin with respect to a control edge of the slot along a first portion, and then along a second portion in which force of an ejection spring moves the actuating rod and continues pivoting of the lever to cause the cassette to move to the fully inserted position. During ejection, movement of the actuating rod moves the pin along a first stop edge portion of the slot to pivot the lever, until the spring passes an overcenter point and causes the lever to continuing pivoting and to eject the cassette.

    • A head-mounting plate is movable between a latched play position, a standby position and a withdrawn position. The plate is moved from the play to the standby positions when the end of the tape is reached or when an actuating rod is depressed slightly. The rod has a guide slot for unlatching the plate, and a switching surface for a tape transport drive switch. A pivotal member on the plate clears the drive switch when in a first pivotal position, and opens the switch during return of the plate to the standby position when in a center position. Upon re-depression and movement of the rod in a specific direction, a stop on the rod moves the member to the first pivotal position. After this re-depression the switch is closed during return movement of the rod in the opposite direction, and a servomechanism moves the head plate from the standby to the play positions.

    • An electrical switch on a chassis of a magnetic-tape-apparatus has a switching lever movable between a center switch open position, an unstable switched closed position to one side of center, and a stable switched closed position to the other side of center, with an over-center position between the center and stable closed positions. Spaced projections on a head-mounting plate engage the lever during movement between a playing position and a stop/ejection position, so as to cause the lever to move between the center and the stable closed position. With the plate in the stop/ejection position, an actuating rod can pass between the projections to move the lever to the unstable closed position and hold it in that position. When the plate is in the playing position, clearance of the projections from the lever is such that the plate can move a certain distance, for example for fast winding, without engaging the lever.

    • The invention relates to a magnetic-tape-cassette apparatus comprising at least one capstan (6a, 6b) which in conjunction with a pressure roller (4a, 4b) drives the magnetic tape (12). The capstan is journalled in a bearing (19) which is mounted in a deck plate (15) of the apparatus by means of a lower sleeve part (18). The lower part (18) is formed with a bore through which the capstan extends and adjoins an upper sleeve part (17) which at least at the capstan side which is remote from the pressure roller (4a, 4b) surrounds the capstan (6a, 6b) above the deck plate (15), to strip off the tape. The lower part (18) and the upper part (17) are formed in one piece of a plastics material. The bearing (19) is formed as a spiral-groove bearing in the inner wall (18a) of the bore in the lower sleeve part.
