    • Techniques for delivering data recovered by a HARQ entity in proper order to higher layers in a CDMA system. In a method, packets are received from the HARQ entity by the re-ordering entity and missing packets among the received packets are detected. Packets may be transmitted in a sequential order based on transmission sequence numbers (TSNs) assigned to the packets, and missing packets may be detected based on the TSNs of the received packets. Delivery of received packets later than the missing packets are stalled because higher layers expect data in-order. A determination is thereafter made whether each missing packet is (1) subsequently received from the HARQ entity or (2) lost, by successively eliminating HARQ channels that may be used to send the missing packet. Received packets previously stalled by each missing packet are delivered after the missing packet is determined to be lost or received.

    • Systems and methodologies are described herein that facilitate control and data multiplexing for uplink (UL) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) communication within a wireless communication system. As described herein, a device conducting uplink MIMO communication in a wireless communication system can multiplex control signaling and data across one or more of a plurality of layers (e.g., corresponding to spatial layers, codewords, etc.) associated with an uplink transmission. Techniques are described herein for selecting layers of a transmission on which to schedule control signaling and selecting offsets to apply to the control signaling scheduled on selected layers. Further, techniques are described herein for leveraging a multi-layer transmission to increase the efficiency of acknowledgement communication. In addition, techniques are described for selecting a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) to apply to control signaling that is combined with data in an uplink multi-layer transmission.

    • Techniques for sending control information on a variable control channel are described. Different structures for mapping control information to control channel resources may be used depending on various factors such as operating configuration, the available resources for the control channel, the type(s) of control information being sent, the amount of control information being sent for each type, whether or not data is being sent, etc. In one design, at least one type of control information being sent may be determined and may comprise channel quality indicator (CQI) information, acknowledgement (ACK) information, and/or other types of control information. A structure of the control channel may be determined based on operating configuration (e.g., system configuration such as asymmetry of downlink and uplink allocations) and/or other factors. The at least one type of control information may be mapped to the resources for the control channel based on the structure.
