    • A system and method for accessing content on an electronic device in an encrypted mode, a decrypted mode or a default mode. A request is transmitted to an application program interface to permit a requesting program to access at least one file. The request specifically identifies whether the requesting program wishes to access the file in an encrypted mode, a decrypted mode or a default mode. It is determined whether the specific form is supported by the application program interface being used by the system, whether the at least one file is protected; and whether the requesting program is permitted to access the at least one file. If the specific form is supported by the application program interface, if the at least one file is protected, and if the requesting program is permitted to access the at least one file, the at least one file is opened in the specific form for use by the requesting program.

    • A micro discharge device (MDD) ionizer and a method for fabricating the MDD ionizer are disclosed. The MDD ionizer includes a dielectric barrier having a first open end connected to an electrically conductive capillary tube and a second open end connected to a sample collection capillary tube. A circular high voltage electrode can be positioned around the dielectric barrier in close linear proximity to the conductive capillary tube and sealed by a non-conductive epoxy. A plasma discharge can be formed in a flow path through the dielectric barrier when an AC potential is applied between the high voltage electrode and the electrically conductive capillary tube utilizing an electronic controller. Such a plasma discharge in the flow path of the sample achieves soft ionization of gaseous sample molecules. The high pressure region generally occurs in the plasma region (where the ionization occurs). The ions thus are drawn (i.e., pushed or pulled) toward the high vacuum region located downstream where the detector(s) can be located.

    • An acoustic wave sensor system for monitoring the etch rate or etchability of a selective material has an acoustic wave sensing device having a piezoelectric substrate and at least one electrode coupled to the substrate for generating a propagating acoustic wave and for detecting changes in frequency or other propagation characteristics of the acoustic wave. A selective material is disposed on the substrate. Changes in propagation characteristics of the wave caused by etching of the selective material by an etchant can be analyzed to evaluate the etching rate or etchability of the selective material. The sensing system can have a wireless sensing device which device is mountable in an oil filter system for monitoring the corrosion of the engine. The sensing device can be configured as BAW, SH-SAW, SH-APM, FPM devices or other acoustic wave devices.
