    • A processor operating in a fizzy logic's mode and including a fuzzyfication unit receiving a plurality of input variables on its input and being adapted to compute a membership value of such variables in a membership function, a processing unit connected downstream of the fuzzyfication unit to produce a fuzzy set, i.e. the results of fuzzy logic inference operations performed on the plurality of variables, and a defuzzyfication unit operative to translate the inference results into a so-called crisp value. The processor further includes a first memory device connected to the fuzzyfication unit and containing the set of membership functions, a second memory device connected to the defuzzyfication unit and containing the set of crisp value which appear in the THEN part of the fizzy rules, and a further memory device connected to the defuzzyfication unit.

    • Fuzzy logic rules are applied to a method for indirectly measuring a physical signal to be monitored which would be difficult to directly measure. The measuring method comprises the steps of obtaining a derived physical signal from the physical signal to be monitored and measuring a value of the derived physical signal and its variations over time at suitably selected check points. A first set of fuzzy logic rules are applied to ascertain the presence or absence of an index signal adapted to mark at least first, second and third operational zones of the derived physical signal. Only the second operational zone is characterized by the presence of the index signal. First and second significant values of the physical signal to be monitored are measured as start and end values, respectively, of the second operational zone. An apparatus for indirectly measuring a physical signal is also disclosed.

    • In a method, according to the invention, of storing one or more natural membership functions of respectively one or more natural variables being each defined within a natural universe of discourse having a lowest natural value and a highest natural value, the natural membership functions are normalized through respective normalization coefficients so that they are defined within the same predetermined absolute universe of discourse having a lowest absolute value and a highest absolute value, thereby obtaining one or more absolute membership functions, respectively, and said absolute membership functions and said normalization coefficients are stored, taking account that identical absolute membership functions are stored only once.
