摘要： An elongate polymer member having molecular helical orientation formed by rotation immediately after passing through the extrusion head. The elongate polymer member is rotated downstream of the extrusion head in the molten state prior to solidification in order to impart the molecular helical orientation. Rotating the polymer member in the molten state allows the helical orientation to be imparted at the molecular level, and allows for more rotations per lineal foot of extrusion.

More specifically, the present invention modifies the underlying crystalline morphology of a polymer in order to decrease crystal fracturing. 摘要： A tubular parison for forming a medical device balloon. The parison is formed of a polymeric material, for instance a thermoplastic elastomer. The parison has an elongation at break which is not more than 80% of the elongation of the bulk polymeric material. The elongation of the parison is controlled by altering extrusion conditions. Balloons prepared from the parisons provide higher wall strength and/or higher inflation durability than balloons prepared from conventional parisons of the same material.

The balloon being inflatable from a first inflation state to a first expanded state as well as to a second expanded state. The balloon having a stent mounting region for retaining and delivery of a stent therefrom, and at least one adjacent region. The stent mounting region having a first diameter and the at least one adjacent region having a second diameter. In the first inflation state the first diameter being less than the second diameter. In the first expanded state the first diameter being no greater than the second diameter. In the second expanded state the first diameter being greater than the second diameter. The stent being retained on the stent mounting region by engagement of the at least one adjacent portion and at least one retractable stent retaining sleeve.

摘要： A medical balloon composed of a micro-composite material which provides for radial expansion of a balloon to a predetermined extent, but which has minimal longitudinal growth during balloon inflation. The micro-composite material includes a fibril component, a matrix component, and optionally, a compatibilizer. The fibril component may preferably be liquid crystal polymer fibers randomly scattered through out the balloon material. The liquid crystal polymers are created by extrusion at high speed. An alternative fibril component may be a PET fibers which are uniformly spaced about the balloon material and extend through out the length of the balloon material tube.
