    • An ultrasonic motor comprises first piezoelectric oscillators alternately arranged with first polarized regions having a first direction of polarization and second polarized regions having a second direction of polarization opposite to the first direction of polarization. The first piezoelectric oscillators undergo bending vibration in a first direction upon input of drive signals having a same phase to the first polarized regions and the second polarized regions to thereby excite the first and second polarized regions. Second piezoelectric oscillators are laminated to the first piezoelectric oscillators in a second direction generally perpendicular to the first direction for undergoing elongation and contraction vibration in the first direction. When a driving signal is applied to the first and second piezoelectric oscillators a drive force is generated by a combination of the bending vibration of the first piezoelectric oscillators and the elongation and contraction vibration of the second piezoelectric oscillators.

    • Disclosed is an ultrasonic motor whose output is improved by enhancing the exciting force of a vibration caused on a vibrating body having a rectangular portion. The ultrasonic motor includes the vibrating body having a piezoelectric element, and a moving body which contacts the vibrating body. The phases of two difference vibrations caused on the vibrating body are changed to make the moving direction of the moving body or the vibrating body itself variable by selecting whether to apply a drive signal to first electrodes provided at one side of the piezoelectric element or to apply a drive signal to second electrodes provided at a portion whose polarization direction differs from that of the first electrodes.

    • A wavelength selection switch (1) equipped with: an input/output unit (10) having multiple input/output ports that input/output signal light; a light-collecting mirror (14) arranged in the light path of the signal light from the input/output unit; a dispersion element (13) having a dispersion part and a non-dispersion part that does not have a dispersion effect; and multiple deflection elements (16) arranged in the direction in which the signal light is dispersed. The light-collecting mirror (14) causes the signal light from the input/output unit (10) to enter the dispersion part of the dispersion element (13), and the light that is dispersed by the dispersion element (13) is collected in the deflection elements (16) through the non-dispersion part of the dispersion element (13). Furthermore, the deflection elements (16) deflect the collected light such that the light is emitted from a prescribed input/output port of the multiple input/output ports.
