    • Described are controlled, time-release microparticulate active and bioactive compositions (including perfuming compositions) for targeted delivery to surfaces such as skin, hair and fabric and the environment proximate thereto, where the active and bioactive materials have a calculated log10P values of between 1 and 8 (P being the n-octanol-water partition coefficient). Such compositions include the active or bioactive material in single phase, solid solution in a wax or polymer matrix also having coated thereon and/or containing a compatible surfactant. Also described are processes and apparatus for preparing such compositions and processes for using same. Furthermore, certain component(s) of the aforementioned compositions in combination with one another are novel, and other components have novel uses in increasing fragrance substantivity, particularly in hair care preparations such as hair gels and shampoos.

    • The present invention relates to an improved controlled release system that can be incorporated into anhydrous cosmetic formulations and can encapsulate different types of fragrances, flavors, active ingredients, or combinations of fragrances, flavors, and various active ingredients. The controlled delivery system of the present invention is substantially free-flowing powder formed of solid hydrophobic nano-spheres that are encapsulated in a moisture sensitive micro-spheres. The fragrances, flavors, and active ingredients encapsulated in the nano-spheres can be the same or different from those encapsulated in the micro-sphere. The encapsulation of one or more fragrances, flavors or active agents in the various components of the system, such as nano-spheres and micro-spheres, provides odor or flavor transition (change in odor character or change in flavor character) during the use of the product, in response to moisture, such as wetting the lips, perspiration, and the like. The incorporation of the controlled release system of the present invention into anhydrous cosmetic formulations was found to provide moisture triggered release, as well as prolonged release of the fragrances, flavors, and active ingredients that are encapsulated in the solid hydrophobic nano-spheres over an extended period of time.

    • The present invention is a controlled delivery system that can be incorporated in hair care products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair styling products, and other hair care products to effectively deliver a broad range of active agents and sensory markers, such as fragrances or cooling agents onto the hair. The system also prolongs the release rate of the active agents or sensory markers over an extended period of time, or provides heat triggered release of the active agents and yields a high impact fragrance “burst” upon blow drying the hair or other types of heat treatment. The controlled delivery system of the present invention is a nano-particle, having an average particle diameter of from about 0.01 microns to about 10 microns. The nano-particle comprises hydrophobic polymers and co-polymers, cationic charge boosters in conjunction with cationic surface-active conditioning agents that assist in adhering the particles onto hair. The invention further relates to a controlled delivery system where the release rate of the active ingredients is synchronized with that of a sensory marker to convey to the consumer the product performance.

    • The present invention relates to a controlled release system useful for site specific delivery of biologically active ingredients or sensory markers, over an extended period of time, targeting biological surfaces comprising the oral cavity and mucous membranes of various tissues, as well as the controlled release of the biological active ingredients or sensory markers. The controlled release system of the present invention is a nano-particle, having an average particle diameter of from about 0.01 microns to about 10 microns, which comprises a biodegradable solid hydrophobic core and a bioadhesive/mucoadhesive positively charged surface. The invention also relates to the use of the nano-particles of the present invention in consumer oral hygiene products, such as toothpaste or mouthwash, for treatment and prevention of periodontal disease. The nano-particles of the present invention are particularly effective for targeted controlled delivery of biological active ingredients into the periodontal pocket. The present invention also provides synchronizing the release of the biologically active ingredient with that of the sensory markers to convey to the consumer the product performance and signal that a new application of the product is needed.
