    • A diverter valve for use in connection with a spout, such as a bathtub spout, to divert water from the bathtub spout to another outlet, such as a showerhead is disclosed. The diverter valve is housed within the downturned spout end and is adapted to reciprocate toward and away from the discharge opening to divert the water from discharging into the tub or through the showerhead. The diverter valve body is in the form of a hollow spool with means provided to mount an actuating handle to reciprocate the valve within the spout end. When the spout is open to the tub, the water discharges from the spout end by way of two paths through the diverter valve, around the spool and through the hollow center of the spool. When the handle is manipulated to divert water to the showerhead, the two paths are closed by two separate valving means each having an elastomer sealing member which have a slight, prescribed difference in sealing diameter. This slight difference in effective sealing area results in a hydraulic force that keeps the diverter in a closed position as long as the supply source is open. When the supply source is shut off after showering, the inlet pressure to the diverter valve decreases to near atmospheric pressure allowing the diverter valve to open automatically because of gravity and the force derived from the upper elastomeric member returning to its as-molded shape.

    • This invention involves a fluid flow device which is in the form of a spout-end for a plumbing fixture such as a bathtub, and which is devised to establish a substantially silent, smooth clear and laminar flow of water into the plumbing fixture. The spout-end includes two adjacent flat screens of different meshes, followed in the path of flow by a fluid straightener, such as a ''''rosette,'''' for establishing a plurality of paths which are substantially parallel to each other, and then followed by another pair of screens both of which are concavely shaped at substantially different radii of curvature so that a gap or chamber is centrally formed between the two concaval screens for diverting the parallel streams into a tapered or converging stream which is substantially continuous and laminar.

    • Covers a fluid flow device or pressure regulator suitable for a spout-end structure for a plumbing fitting or fixture. The equipment includes two tandem arranged disk structures to be inserted in the spout-end to control the flow through the spoutend. The upstream element comprises a substantially flat cylindrical flexible disk having a plurality of substantially identical cylindrical parallel apertures. The downstream element comprises a hard metallic or plastic disk having a plurality of hard substantially non-flexible projections which may be located in the central region of the disk, a plurality of parallel substantially identical apertures which are peripherally arranged about the projections of the disk and a plurality of supports or barriers near the several projections. The two disks are positioned closely adjacent or contiguous to each other so that, in the absence of fluid pressure or under low fluid pressure conditions, the hard or non-flexible projections on the hard or lower disk barely contact the adjacent surface of the upstream or upper flexible disk. As the fluid pressure reaches a predetermined value or exceeds the predetermined value, the projections on the second or hard disk will remain rigid and unchanged in shape, but the upper flexible disk will be compressed so that the overall area of the apertures of the first disk through which fluid flows will be reduced so that the fluid flow through the two disks will remain substantially unchanged, notwithstanding changes in the pressure of the applied fluid however rapid or however slow.
