    • A cooling tube assembly for operating on a malleable molded plastic part. The cooling tube assembly comprising a porous tube/insert having a profiled inner conditioning surface, and a vacuum structure configured to cooperate with the porous tube. In use, the vacuum develops a reduced pressure adjacent the inner conditioning surface to cause an outer surface of the malleable molded plastic part, locatable within the cooling tube assembly, to contact the inner conditioning surface of the porous insert so as to allow a substantial portion of the outer surface of the malleable part, upon cooling, to attain a profile substantially corresponding to the profile of the inner conditioning surface.     • A sprue bar assembly for a melt transfer system for stack molds comprises a sprue bar and a sprue bar sleeve, a sprue bar and drool restrictor and sleeve or a sprue bar and drool restrictor. For the assemblies with the sleeve, when the stack mold is opened, the sprue bar slides inside the sprue bar sleeve which captures any leakage therefrom. When the mold is closed, the sprue bar sweeps captured leakage out of the sleeve to an area outside the mold. As the busing at the end of the sprue bar can contact the nozzle of the injection machine at a point very close to the edge of the fixed platen, the resulting minimum length of the sprue bar is reduced, reducing pressure losses through the sprue bar and reducing the cost of the sprue bar. The sprue bar sleeve can be fabricated from an insulating material to enhance the thermal characteristics of the sprue bar assembly and a scraper can be provided on the sprue bar to improve removal of captured material from the sprue bar sleeve. If a drool restrictor is provided within the bushing, the amount of drool from the sprue bar when the bushing is not in engagement with the nozzle of the injection machine can also be reduced and, in some circumstances, can eliminate the need for the sleeve.

    • Platen-mounted, post-mold cooling apparatus and method includes structure and/or steps for handling molded parts in an injection molding machine having a fixed platen, a moving platen, a core half, and a cavity half. A take off device coupled to the fixed platen is configured to remove molded parts from either the core half or the cavity half. A cooling device coupled to the moving platen is configured to cool the molded parts carried by the take off device. Preferably, the take off device extracts the just molded parts from the mold's core half and then moves linearly outboard of the mold halves. The subsequent movement of the moving platen to close the mold in the next molding cycle causes the cooling device's pins to engage the molded parts in the take off device part carriers. When the moving platen opens again, the molded parts are extracted from the part carriers by external gripping devices. When the moving platen is fully open, the cooling device is rotated to eject the cooled parts from the machine.
