    • Facsimile image-scaling and -smoothing method and apparatus are described. They scale a received facsimile image along a given axis to increase the printed image resolution therealong, while smoothing the scaled image to reduce visually objectionable ticks. They do so by analyzing received image data with respect to adjacent received lines having disparate pixel counts and by filling in pixels therebetween in accordance with predefined fill rules that are designed also to smooth the output image to be printed. Various predefined rules are applied to produce intermediate results some or all of which are comprehended by the scaling/smoothing algorithm to produce the final smoothed, scaled output pixel image. Preferably such analyzing and filling in accordance with such rules are performed by a hybrid hardware and firmware subsystem within a receiving facsimile machine or facsimile-receiving printer.

    • An analog encoder of one embodiment of the invention is disclosed that includes an input mechanism, a digital signal processing mechanism, and an output mechanism. The input mechanism is to receive and digitize different analog encoder signals. The digital signal processing mechanism is to generate inverse analog encoder signals from the different analog encoder signals, and to apply dynamically changeable gain and offset corrections in real-time. The output mechanism is to generate digital quadrature signals from crossing points among the analog encoder signals and the inverse analog encoder signals, and a position value based on a direction of the digital quadrature signals for external access.

    • An apparatus has a first H-bridge having a first motor contact on a shared first side and a second motor contact on a second side. The apparatus also has a half H-bridge having a third motor contact on a third side, wherein the shared first side of the first H-bridge and the third side of the half H-bridge may be operated as a second H-bridge. Another apparatus has a first H-bridge having a first motor contact on a shared first side and a second motor contact on a second side. The other apparatus also has a switch coupled to a third motor contact, wherein the shared first side of the first H-bridge and the switch may be operated as a partial H-bridge. A method of operating an alternate H-bridge and a method of flexibly using an H-bridge circuit on an ASIC are also provided.
