    • A current-limiting fuse comprises a hollow insulating housing; metallic end cap assemblies at opposite ends of the housing; a multi-ribbed dielectric spider assembly having metallic terminator plates connected at opposite ends disposed within the housing with each terminator plate electrically and mechanically connected to an associated end cap assembly; a plurality of fusible elements helically wound on the spider assembly with their ends electrically and mechanically secured to the terminate plate; a visual indicator pin mounted on one end of the spider assembly and movable by a biasing spring from a retracted position wherein it is secured by a fusible wire to a tripped (fuse-blown) position wherein it projects through aligned holes in an associated terminator plate and end cap assembly; and granular dielectric material filling the housing. Each terminator plate comprises axially inwardly extending relatively massive arcing electrodes (one for each fusible element) around which end portions of the fusible elements are wound. Each end portion of an element extends either through a hole in the arcing electrode to which it is spot-welded or through a hole in the terminator plate to which it is welded. The fusible wire has one end mechanically secured to the pin, is helically wound through axially spaced apart holes formed in the ribs of the spider assembly, and has its other end mechanically anchored to a rib in the spider assembly.

    • A full-range, current limiting fuse which includes a modular fuse subassembly which can be assembled with any pair of several types of paired end caps to construct any one of several types of fuses. This modular subassembly includes a main fuse element helically wound about a gas evolving spider and connected to element termination plates mechanically attached to each end of the spider, and an auxiliary fuse element, electrically isolated from the main element, which is also helically wound about the spider and connected at one end to a contact button centrally disposed at one end of the spider.This modular subassembly is positioned within a sand-filled fuse tube sealed at both ends by brass end caps which are magnetically formed and epoxied thereon. The main fuse element is electrically connected at each end to a respective end cap by terminal tabs of the element terminations which extend through matching openings in the caps, and are soldered therein to hermetically seal the openings. One of these end caps includes a centrally disposed contact button which is electrically connected to an outside surface of the end cap by a high resistance vent wire extending through a passage in the end cap, and which makes electrical contact with the contact button of the modular subassembly to thus connect the auxiliary element to the outside surface of one of the end caps.The fuse can be made watertight by positioning elastomeric gaskets between the caps and the tube which are compressed during the forming operation to form watertight seals, and by filling the vent wire passage in the end cap with elastomeric material. During a fuse operation, the vent wire is vaporized to produce a vent hole for gases generated within the fuse and to give indication of the fuse operation.

    • A fusible element for a current limiting fuse includes two silver ribbons, each provided with a plurality of holes spaced apart along the length thereof which define fusible points of reduced cross sectional area, one of these ribbons including a conventional "M" spot consisting of a body of low melting temperature alloy such as tin-lead solder, in intimate contact with the silver ribbon. One end of each of the silver ribbons is joined to a respective end of a centrally disposed tin wire element by a copper interconnecting member. This tin wire central portion of the fusible element has a melt I.sup.2 t which is equal to or greater than that of the silver ribbons in series with it. The time-current characteristics of this fusible element at high magnitude fault currents and at low magnitude overload currents are determined respectively by the fusible points of reduced cross sectional area of the silver ribbons and by the "M" spot of one of the silver ribbons in the same way as in the fusible elements of known current limiting fuses. However, at intermediate fault currents, the tin element initiates melting of the fusible element much faster than a fusible element using only a perforated silver ribbon and a conventional "M" spot.

    • A mechanism to control opening/closing of a container door[s] is disclosed. The mechanism is generally located at one end of the container and utilizes a geometric arrangement of opposing fluid actuated cylinders, control members and pivot members to control movement of the doors. A control mechanism allows an operator to selectively open the doors simultaneously or independently. In the preferred embodiment, the control members are rigid members each attached at its top end to a respective door and at its bottom end to a respective pivot member rotatably mounted to the container. Distances between each of the control member bottom ends and a respective one of the rotatable mounts of the respective pivot member to the container for both control members are substantially equal.
