摘要： The present invention relates to a method for transmitting data. An optical pulse stream comprising a plurality of return-to-zero optical pulses is prepared by modulating a phase of light output by an optical source to thereby encode data from a data source. The light of the optical pulse stream has a wavelength. The optical pulse stream is transmitted along an optical fiber of an optical network. Optical pulse streams of the invention enhance transmission performance at least in part by reducing noise at the receiver caused by fiber non-linearities.

摘要： There is provided an optical regenerative amplifier for regenerative amplification of a binary phase shift-keying (BPSK) sequence of optical signals having a predetermined time slot between any adjacent signals. The optical regenerative amplifier comprises a first delay interferometer, wherein an input sequence of BPSK signals is split between two arms of an interferometer, a relative delay by the time slot between the adjacent signals is introduced in one of the arms of the interferometer to produce two mutually anti-symmetric trains of amplitude shift-keying (ASK) signals; a discriminative limiting amplifier to amplify the said two trains of anti-symmetric ASK signals, wherein the amplification for the spaces is smaller compared to the amplification for the marks and the amplification for the marks is limiting; and a second delay interferometer, wherein the said two trains of anti-symmetric ASK signals are recombined, delayed, and interfered to reproduce a regeneratively amplified BPSK sequence of signals and to separate noise from the signals.

摘要： An apparatus for facilitating interruption of current in an electrical circuit is provided and includes a current sensing device in the electrical circuit to service an electrical load, the current sensing device being productive of an output signal representative of a load current passing therethrough, a detection unit, in signal communication with the current sensing device such that the output signal is received by the detection unit, the detection unit being configured and disposed to output a secondary signal based on the output signal, and a microcontroller to receive and to decompose the secondary signal into detailed and approximate coefficients, and to generate a trip signal for use in interrupting an operation of the electrical circuit when a current of the sensed load is above a predetermined threshold and the detailed and approximate coefficients cooperatively indicate that threshold conditions for trip signal generation are satisfied.
