    • This invention pertains to both an apparatus and a method for constructing and using an incontinent female urine collection device. A molding of a partly resilient material and having a cup-shape and a stepped bore in said receptacle, is provided. Several attachment configurations to receive and retain a resilient, soft, compliant outer-rim portion are shown. This rim portion is secured to a lip edge of the molding by adhesive and the like to provide a fluid-tight seal when this device is mounted in the folds of the user's labia. A first length of tubing is secured in a formed stepped bore as by adhesive and/or the like. The discharge end of this tubing is connected to a second tubing conductor leading to a urine collection receiver. A vent in this conductor is provided to prevent air binding. A panty garment having elasticized properties is made with a reinforced aperture sized to accept and retain the first length of discharge tubing. This reinforcement is adapted for resisting wear, raveling and enlargement. The resilient, compliant rim provides a soft, non-irritating fluid-tight seal of the worn collection device to the skin area of the female labia. The receptacle and rim portion thereof may be integrally formed of closed cell silicone foam.

    • A post-injection needle sheath for enclosing the sharpened end of a needle used with a syringe is shown with and without spring actuation. This sheath is initially in a compact and secured condition on the needle hub and has a substantial portion of the needle exposed for insertion into a patient or vial. Two embodiments employ a compression spring. Three embodiments avoid a spring per se, but have a corrugated portion and a flange portion that are manipulated by the attendant to urge the sheath forward to enclose the sharpened end of the needle. In all embodiments, the forward end includes a transverse wall in which is formed an aperture that is slightly larger than the shank of the needle. Protection to the exposed needle before use is provided by a conventionally removable shield which is removed at time of use. After withdrawal of the needle from the patient, the sheath, with the cap or end portion, is moved forward to enclose the sharpened needle.

    • This invention pertains to a medicator securing device for use in an I.V. administration in which a needle is inserted into a resilient cap member to add drugs and the like to an infusion procedure. This inserted needle is retained in inserted condition and position in this cap by this securing device. A flexible, substantially transparent plastic film having one surface coated with a self-stick adhesive is applied tightly to a frame of semi-rigid material. This frame provides at least one window-like opening which is covered by the adhesively-coated film. A release sheet member is applied to the window-like area until a time of use and application of the securing device, at which time the release sheet is removed and the adhesive surface of the film within said window is brought to and around the connection, with a fold made of the device so that the film is engaged tightly around the connection. At the time of removal, said frame portions are grasped to pull the adhesive surfaces of the film within the window-like area apart for removal or exposing of the connection. This device is also depicted as securing a Luer slip connection and being made with the frame and the window-like area protection of a same release-sheet material.

    • A hub assembly for use in the filtration of fluids comprising a hub with a tapered bore extending therethrough, and a filter membrane in the bore. The filter membrane has a first portion extending across the bore and a second portion extending from the first portion in substantial contact with the hub around the bore. Means within the bore presses the second portion into tight contact with the hub around the bore to secure the filter membrane therein.A method of fabricating a filter membrane and inserting the same into a hub having a bore extending therethrough, the bore being substantially circular in cross section and tapered to define a large opening at its proximal end and a small opening at its distal end, includes forming a substantially flat, circular filter membrane from a filter medium, the membrane having a diameter larger than the large opening of the bore. The membrane is inserted into the tapered bore so that a first portion thereof is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bore, and as the membrane advances and the circular cross-section of the bore decreases, a second portion of the membrane is formed. This second portion is an annular flange extending from the first portion along the hub around the bore, and facing the large opening. The filter member is advanced a sufficient distance in the bore while pressing radially outwardly by a force against the flange so that the first portion is rendered taut by the wiping action of the flange along the hub. When the combination of the tapered bore and the force pressing against the flange provide a secure fit of the membrane within a predetermined location within the bore, the advance of the filter membrane therein is stopped.
