    • The invention relates to interpolation of an image information value for a pixel of an interline. The method comprises selecting, from a number of image directions, to each of which a direction quality value is assigned, a direction of interpolation by comparing these direction quality values. The image information value being interpolated is determined in dependence on image information values assigned to pixels lying adjacent to the pixel being interpolated in the direction of interpolation. To ascertain a direction quality value for an image direction a pixel group having at least two pixels is selected; a single direction quality value for each pixel of the pixel group is determined, the single direction quality value being dependent on image information values assigned to image regions lying adjacent to the particular pixel of the group in the image direction; and a direction quality value is created as a function of the single direction quality values of the pixel group.

    • A method for improving functionality of a binary representation of an XML-based content description, wherein a structure of any instance of an XML-document corresponds to a tree-like data structure including a plurality of tree nodes, is provided. The method includes providing that each tree node represents an element of the content description and has a structure which is defined in a schema; providing the tree nodes in binary representation with tree branch codes; providing that the respective tree branch code has a schema branch code; extending an existing schema by utilizing unused schema branch codes in a tree node for extensions with new elements until the unused schema branch codes are all used up, and increasing a bit length of the schema branch code as necessary; and communicating a bit length change to a decoder for correctly decoding the content description in the binary representation.

    • A schema definition, which is known to the encoder and to the decoder or transmitted from the encoder to the decoder, specifies information for calculating code concerning the elements or data types contained in the name subspace and enabling this information to be clearly assigned in this manner to each code in the name subspace. Only a portion of the entire name space including the number of the elements or data types lacking for the code calculation have to be transmitted for the configuration of a code which generally means a significantly smaller volume of data than the volume of data that would be required for the entire name space. In addition, the code tables are smaller than in entirely known name spaces which requires less storage space in the codec and enables a faster encoding and decoding.
