    • An image forming apparatus includes a latent image forming device that forms a latent image, a latent image carrier that carries the latent image, a development device that develops the latent image, and a controller. The development device includes a developer carrier that faces the latent image carrier and carries toner on a rotary surface thereof that rotates in a rotation direction perpendicular to a width direction of the developer carrier, and a regulation member that regulates the thickness of a layer of the toner on the surface of the developer carrier. The controller moves the toner on lateral end regions in the width direction of the surface of the developer carrier toward the latent image carrier. The end regions are located outside a maximum image forming region within a regulation member facing region of the surface of the developer carrier facing the regulation member.

    • A torque and index detection apparatus includes a torque sensing section that senses torque exerted on a connecting shaft connecting a first and second shafts by a pair of magnetic sensing elements whose magnetic sensing directions are opposite, and a reference rotational position sensing section that senses a reference rotational position of the second shaft by the magnetic sensing elements. The reference rotational position sensing section includes a pair of magnets provided in the circumferential direction of the second shaft with like magnetic poles facing each other, a first magnetic part that is located between the magnets and the magnetic sensing elements, rotates integrally with the second shaft, and forms a magnetic path for magnetic flux of the magnets in the reference rotational position, and a second magnetic part that is provided between the magnetic sensing elements, and passes the magnetic flux from the first magnetic part uniformly to the magnetic sensing elements.

    • In a torque sensor, a first detection tube (13) made from magnetic material covers a cylindrical magnetic leak prevention member (12) that is made from nonmagnetic material and covers a first shaft (3) made from magnetic material. Magnetic resistance to magnetic flux, which passes through one end of the first detection tube (13) and one end of a second detection tube (14) that is made from magnetic material and rotates together with a second shaft (4), changes according to elastic relative rotation of the two shafts (3, 4) corresponding to transmitted torque, by providing a plurality of teeth (13a, 14a) along the circumferential direction at the one end of each detection tube (13, 14). The first shaft (3) and the first detection tube (13) are integrated with the magnetic leak prevention member (12) so that they can rotate together, by being inserted in a mold for forming the magnetic leak prevention member (12) before the synthetic resin material is poured into the mold. The circumferential width of each resin holding space (13A) between the teeth (13a) arranged along the circumferential direction at one end of the first detection tube (13) decreases gradually toward the other end of the first detection tube (13). The synthetic resin material solidified in the resin holding spaces (13A) is pressed against the teeth (13a) due to shrinkage thereof.
