    • In a friction stir welding method, a tool is moved being rotated along portions to be joined of a work piece, where the portions include a corner with a smaller curvature that connect two portions with larger curvatures. The method includes the steps of setting the work piece on a supporting member, rotating the tool around a center axis thereof, moving the tool toward the work piece to penetrate a portion of the tool into the work piece at the portions to be joined, and moving and turning the tool along the portions to be joined. A rotation speed of the tool around the center axis thereof is decreased to be smaller at the corner with the smaller curvature than the rotation speed of the tool around the center axis thereof at the portions with the larger curvatures.

    • A fluid distillation apparatus is removably built into a object cleaning apparatus which comprises a duty tank for retaining contaminated fluid, a receiving tank for receiving the distilled fluid from the distillation apparatus and a sink means in which the objects are cleaned. The fluid distillation apparatus comprises at least one each of a fluid inlet port through which the fluid to be distilled is transferred from a container containing the fluid to be distilled to distillation chamber, a fluid outlet port through which the distilled fluid is transferred to a container to hold the distilled fluid, an air supply port to which compressed air supply is to be connected, a power cord through which the electric power is supplied, preferably an outlet through which air pressure for fluid agitation is supplied to the said container containing the fluid to be distilled, and preferably an outlet through which air pressure is supplied to a pump means for transferring the distilled fluid from the receiving container to the duty fluid container. The fluid distillation apparatus, duty tank, and the receiving tank are built into the object cleaning apparatus in such way that any one of these components can be easily removed from and re-installed to the object cleaning apparatus.

    • Apparatus for cleaning and servicing vehicle brakes includes a caster mounted cabinet adapted to hold a small drum of cleaning solvent, the drum having an open top. A telescopic post or conduit extends upwardly from the cabinet to a hollow, hinged swing arm. A sink tray is mounted on the end of the swing arm and has a bottom drain opening that communicates with the hollow swing arm, which in turn communicates with the upright conduit to form drain piping for the sink tray. The outlet of the upright conduit empties into the solvent container in the cabinet. A pump mounted in the cabinet takes cleaning solvent from the drum and delivers it through a hose to a spray gun to be applied to the brakes to be cleaned. The telescoping post and adjustable swing arm allow the sink tray to be located directly under the brakes being cleaned to catch and return the used solvent. The cabinet also has a second basin or sink that drains into the container but can be used for cleaning parts.

    • A parts washer is disclosed of the type having a sink, a drum of solvent, and a recirculating system for pumping the solvent from the drum through a hose or nozzle arrangement for spraying the solvent on the parts to be washed in the sink, and then allowing the solvent to drain from the sink back into the solvent drum. In this invention, the solvent drum is fitted with an extra clean-out tube for withdrawing contaminated solvent from the drum, and a return tube for replenishing the drum with clean solvent. The clean-out tube and return tube are fitted with quick-connect couplings for releasably attaching solvent cleaning apparatus thereto, such as filtration or distillation type recycling apparatus.

    • A compactor or baling machine as disclosed for compacting loose materials such as paper, plastic sheeting, rags and the like. The compactor includes a housing having an access door and a transverse platen located in the housing. Guide means are provided to guide the movement of the platen along a longitudinal path from a retracted position to an extended position. An actuator is located in the housing beside and parallel to the path of movement of the platen, the actuator having a first end attached to the housing and a second opposed end attached to the platen. Optional latch and interlock means automatically operate the platen and prevent the access door from opening unless the platen is stationary or in a retracted and safe position.
