    • A slip-on type pipe joint including a socket, a spigot and an annular rubber packing disposed on the inner periphery of the socket at an axially intermediate portion thereof and compressible by the outer periphery of the spigot against the inner periphery of the socket to seal the clearance between the socket and the spigot with its restoring force. The joint further comprises an engaging member detachably attached to the inner periphery of the socket at its open end and radially inwardly projecting from the periphery, a protrusion formed on the outer periphery of the spigot and positioned between the packing and the engaging member, and a split lock ring disposed between the protrusion and the engaging member and fitting around the spigot with a diametrically contractive force. The lock ring is engageable with the engaging member and with the protrusion to prevent the spigot from slipping off the socket. For the fabrication of the joint, the packing is checked for proper installation with a gauge, with the spigot inserted in the socket, and the lock ring and the engaging member are thereafter set in position.

    • A slip-on type pipe joint wherein a ringlike seal packing is mounted in an annular recess formed in the inner peripheral surface of the socket end of one pipe and the spigot of another pipe is inserted, whereby the pipes are connected together. The pipe joint is characterized in that the inner peripheral surface of the socket is formed with an engagement projection projecting toward the axis of the pipe and disposed adjacent the inner side of the packing, a split lock ring axially engageable with the engagement projection is fitted in an annular groove formed in the outer peripheral surface of the spigot, and the opposed free ends of the split lock ring are joined together by a coupling piece placed on the lateral surface of the split lock ring disposed adjacent the front end side of the spigot to prevent the split lock ring from slipping off the annular groove.

    • Fluid separation method and apparatus for simultaneously carrying out dialysis and ultrafiltration and exactly controlling the ultrafiltration rate is disclosed. The method and apparatus is concerned with a dialysis system comprising the combination of a fluid separating device; one or more units for dialysate each unit, each unit comprising a pair of dialysate chambers separated by at least one partition which is movable or transformable while keeping the over-all volume of a pair of dialysate chambers constant; a variable speed dialysate feed pump; a variable speed dialysate discharge pump; and other devices e.g. monitoring devices.Fresh dialysate is fed from one of the dialysate chambers into the dialysate inlet of the fluid separating device; separation treatment is carried out through the semi-permeable membrane of the fluid separating device; waste dialysate is discharged from the dialysate outlet of the fluid separating device into the dialysate chamber and the over-all volume of this closed circuit is maintained constant. The controlled ultrafiltrate is exactly discharged from the closed circuit by an ultrafiltration pump; and a continuous operation is carried out in a plurality of units for exchanging dialysate alternately.
