    • A method and system in a computer system for communicating instructions to an application program in response to spoken commands received by a spoken command input facility is provided. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a list of available commands is displayed under the control of the spoken command input facility. Each available command has an instruction associated with it that causes the application program to take some action. The spoken command input facility then determines whether a command spoken by a user is an available command. The spoken command input facility then communicates the instruction associated with the determined available command to the application program. If the spoken command is an available command, the spoken command input facility then revises the displayed list of available commands.

    • Methods and systems for pretreating lignocellulosic biomass are disclosed. An acid solution between 1% to 1.6% sulfuric acid is applied to the biomass. The biomass is subjected to an elevated temperature to cause the production of xylose, glucose, and furfural. Adjustments to temperature, acid concentration, and time can generate at least 80% or 90% of theoretical xylose, 45% or 50% of the theoretical glucose, and less than 4000 ppm of furfural in the xylose liquor. A portion of the resulting xylose liquor may be separated from the glucan solids. The xylose liquor, still highly acidic, can be recycled to reduce subsequent acid loading requirements. Makeup acid solution is added to the xylose liquor and subsequent biomass to ensure a proper solids to liquids ratio. The biomass is again treated to higher temperatures to yield sugars. The process may be repeated for each subsequent cycle.

    • A method includes receiving traffic through a first interface in a first group of interfaces at a switch. The first group of interfaces is associated with a first virtual network. The method also includes determining that the traffic is destined for a destination associated with a second virtual network and forwarding the traffic to a second interface in a second group of interfaces at the switch. The second group of interfaces is associated with the second virtual network. The method further includes filtering the traffic that is received at the second interface in the second group of interfaces and communicating the filtered traffic towards the destination. The first and second virtual networks could represent Virtual Local Area Networks associated with different network levels of a process control system.
