    • A fluid consuming battery and method are provided for reducing electrode doming and providing an adequate sealed closure to the battery housing. The battery includes a cell housing having first and second housing components and at least one fluid entry port through a side of the cell housing for the passage of a fluid. The battery also has a gasket disposed between the first and second housing components. A first electrode is disposed within the cell housing in electrical contact with the first housing component and a second air electrode is provided in an electrode assembly disposed within the cell housing in electrical contact with the second housing component. The electrode assembly includes a first peripheral portion that is compressed relative to a middle portion prior to assembling the first and second housing components together and closing the cell housing. The gasket has first and second extensions that bias against interior surfaces, and the second extension is radially inwards of an angled outward recess in the can.

    • A low profile seal assembly for sealing the open end of a container of an electrochemical cell to provide controlled pressure venting, while effectively preventing resealing of the open end of the cell. An electrochemical cell has a container with a closed bottom and an open top end, positive and negative electrodes disposed in the container, a separator disposed between the positive and negative electrodes, and an electrolyte disposed in the container. The cell further includes a seal member disposed in the open top end of the container for closing the open top end of the container. The seal member has a stress concentrator formed in the seal member for providing pressure relief to vent high pressure gases. A cover is disposed in the open end of the container and substantially covers the seal member, and the cover has at least one opening formed therein. A standoff member is located between a top surface of the seal member and a bottom surface of the cover for keeping at least a portion of the seal member at a distance from the cover to prevent resealing of the seal member when the seal member vents.

    • An electrochemical cell with a vent assembly that reliably prevents resealing of a vented seal member is provided. The vent assembly seals the end of a container that includes a first electrode, a second electrode, a separator located between the first and second electrodes and an electrolyte in contact with the electrodes and separator. The seal member includes a diaphragm with a hinge along one edge and a vent along another edge. The hinge and vent are located so that, relative to the longitudinal axis of the vent assembly, the hinge is closer to the vent than to the cell's terminal cover.

    • A pressurized container with a vent assembly that reliably prevents resealing of a vented seal member is provided. In one embodiment, the vent assembly seals the end of a container that includes a first electrode, a second electrode, a separator located between the first and second electrodes and an electrolyte in contact with the electrodes and separator. The seal member includes at least two protrusions on the surface of the seal member. The protrusions define and maintain a gap between the cover and seal member after the seal member has ruptured thereby allowing pressure within the container to be reduced.
