    • A memory positioning system for use in a remote control rear-view mirror having electric motors for adjusting the mirror's position, which position is electrically detected by linear potentiometers connected to a microprocessor that records the potentiometer-generated signals. After the signals corresponding to a pre-selected position have been recorded and the mirror adjusted to a different position, the mirror can be returned to the pre-selected position by commanding the microprocessor to operate the motors until the potentiometers detect the previously recorded positions corresponding to the recorded signals. A rib and slot on the mirror's main spherical pivot mounting provide only a limited predetermined amount of vibration-absorbing pivotal movement about an axis which intersects the plane of the mirror. The mirror also has stops which permit only a limited amount of pivotal movement about the same axis.

    • An automotive vehicle rearview mirror assembly comprising a plastic mirror holding member and a plastic support member provided with cooperating integral connecting structures providing for relative pivotal movements about two perpendicular intersecting axes. The connecting structures having a snap-in relation providing large interengaging dual parallel truncated spherical surfaces and smaller interengaging segmental spherical surfaces all having a common centerpoint. The support member connects with a cooperating casing member to form a casing assembly carrying a remotely controlled power operated mechanism for effecting pivotal movements of the mirror holding member. A sensing mechanism is also carried within the casing assembly for enabling the power operated mechanism to be automatically controlled as well as manually controlled. The power operated mechanism includes actuator assemblies each having a pair of actuator members one of which has a snap-in ball and socket connection with the casing member and a lug and notch connection with an associated pinion member. The sensing mechanism includes integral wall portions on the casing member for mounting two spaced sensing members with electrical contacts in cooperating relation with two potentiometer circuits on a single electrical circuit board.

    • A rearview mirror assembly including an exteriorly convex shell having a concave interior opening rearwardly when the shell is mounted on the side of a vehicle and a power operated assembly fixedly secured to the shell for mounting and moving a mirror case and mirror assembly for pivotal movement about first and second intersecting pivotal axes normal to one another within the open rear of the shell. The power operated assembly includes a molded plastic member of a size to fit within the concave interior of the shell so as to extend inwardly of and generally across the open rear thereof. The plastic member has spaced portions fixedly secured with spaced portions of the concave interior of the shell so that the molded plastic member serves as a strengthening strut for the open rear of the shell. The plastic member has a dual axis pivot element molded integrally on the central portion thereof which extends rearwardly therefrom and integral first and second surfaces for engaging and supporting one fore and aft half of first and second power operated moving mechanisms respectively of the power operated assembly. The other fore and aft half of the first and second power operated moving mechanisms respectively is supported by a pair of separate substantially identical casing members.
