    • A floating debris removal system has a bypass or overflow grate that is hinged at the top and positioned to swing downstream under certain conditions. The grate is fastened with a shear ring that will break when sufficient force is generated against the grate by the flow of overflow water and debris through the system. A plow-shaped member pivots off upwardly as flow increases. The member has a plow-shaped blade that spreads the flow across the inlet of the trap of the system to reduce the velocity of the flow. The shape and weight of the blade are selected for optimal function under a range of water levels and flow velocities, and can be altered to perform best for different installations. Debris pits are provided before or after the traps of the system to collect small suspended debris that is not removed by the traps. The pits are sized and configured to slow the velocity of the flow of that the suspended debris settles into the pits. Guide pits on the traps ride in vertical rails to facilitate loading and removal of the traps in the system, while a third plate-like rail on the face of a service ladder guides the downstream end of the traps, while simplifying the overall construction, minimizing surfaces on which dirt can collect, and conserving space.

    • A disposable net assembly is provided for a trap for collecting floatable debris in a waterway or combined sewer system. The net assembly includes a knitted bag-shaped mesh net having a frame surrounding the mouth of the net with the net secured around its rim to the frame. The net may be formed of an inner layer and an outer layer of mesh with the openings of the inner layer being substantially larger than the openings of the outer layer. The frame may be formed of a plastic molded material having side members tapered in the vertical direction to facilitate the changing of the netting assemblies and tapered in the downstream direction to lock into place under the force of the flow. Several embodiments of the frame members have projections thereon which cooperate with a clamping element to hold the net to the frame. Some embodiments of the members have parts that lock together with a post and hole construction while others employ a tension band to clamp the net to the projections on the frame. The net is preferably secured around its rim to the frame, with the mouth of the net extending around the outside and upstream side of the frame and over the surface having the projections. The net is preferably formed of a high strength and high stretch yarn, with rolled sewn seams and having reinforcing on the seams and on high stress areas of the net.

    • Apparatus for trapping and collecting debris including an in-line trap contained in a subterranean chamber having an inlet and an outlet for connection to an underground conduit such as a sewer or storm drain conduit. The trap comprises a net being closed on all sides except on an inlet side which faces the inlet to the chamber. The chamber is contained in a vault having a set of upper doors and the bag is attached to a frame structure having suitable supports which may be grasped such that the bag may be lifted upwardly through the doors for replacement. An overflow weir is provided for allow flow past the trap when the bag is full of debris. Sensing systems are further provided for detecting and signalling when the bag is full. A multi-bag system is also disclosed in which at least two bags in parallel are provided such that one bag may accommodate overflow when the other is being serviced.
