摘要： The settling rate of particulate matter in a fluid is determined by passing a mixture of the fluid and the particulate matter up through an inverted cone at a known flow rate. The particulate matter accumulates at the level in the cone where the upward velocity of the fluid is equal to the settling rate of the particles. Sensors may be used to detect the presence of particles at one or more levels in the tube; and the signals from the sensors may be used to control the operation of a separator.

摘要： In a continuous ion-exchange process in which resin moves intermittently through a circuit including an absorber and a regenerator, the absorber is spanned by a liquid-distributing system, and at each intermittent movement a slug of resin wholly occupying the space in the absorber between this system and one end of the absorber is discharged while service flow continues. The remainder of the bed in the absorber is moved in the direction of the space thus emptied so as to fill it again and a slug of regenerated resin of identical volume is introduced into the other end of the absorber.

摘要： In the regeneration of a mixed bed of cation and anion resins which are separated into layers, these being individually regenerated, the effluent regenerant of the anion layer is collected at points above the interface between the layers and the regenerant of the cation layer is introduced at points below the interface. A central device for collecting and distributing regenerant has inlets on the upper side and outlets on the under side, and all the inlets and outlets are controlled by nonreturn valves.
