    • A device for a tank containing fluid medium, especially socalled heavy oils, which comprises a housing submerged in said medium and thermally insulated therefrom with a heat exchanger disposed therein for heating the fluid medium. The housing has at its opposite ends a first or inlet and mixing chamber and a second or combined circulation and outlet chamber respectively. The first chamber is in open flow connection with the surrounding fluid medium while the second chamber is in valve-controlled flow connection with a discharge conduit. A pump adjacent one end of the heat exchanger is adapted to force fluid medium through a flow passage from the first chamber via the heat exchanger into the second chamber while another flow passage permits circulation from the second chamber to the first chamber so as to maintain the mixing of heated fluid medium from the heat exchanger and unheated fluid medium from the tank in step with the discharge of heated fluid medium from the discharge conduit.

    • The disclosed apparatus for recovering oil floating on the surface of a body of water comprises a bowl for skimming and collecting oil from the surface of the water, means for supporting the bowl with its peripheral edge surface located at the surface of the water while its body portion therebelow extends downwardly below the level of the body of water, said bowl having a central downwardly and inwardly inclined upper surface, a pump for pumping recovered oil from the central lower portion of the bowl, a plate outside and surrounding the bowl for directing water and oil toward the peripheral edge of the bowl where oil is separated from water, said plate having a central downwardly and inwardly inclined portion below the bowl having a bottom water outlet passageway, and a water pump connected into the water outlet passageway for drawing water and oil over the peripheral surface of the plate to the peripheral edge of the bowl and for drawing water on through the space between the plate and bowl and out the said passageway. The pump may be located in the bowl, for example, in a chamber which surrounds the pump and is provided with oil flow passageways leading into the chamber.

    • A hydraulic system including two or more hydraulic components separately operable by means of predetermined mutually arbitrary quantities of pressure medium supplied from a common source of the latter via a common feed conduit through respective individually regulatable quantity control valves. Each quantity control valve incorporates a throttle arrangement and a control slide which are adapted to supply a maximum quantity of pressure medium to their hydraulic component by balancing the pressure on the control slide in opposite axial directions. The control slide in a first axial direction is under a pressure load in front of the throttle arrangement and in an opposite axial direction under a pressure load behind the throttle arrangement plus the pressure exerted by a pressure spring. The control slide is provided with a throttle flange cooperable with a flow opening in a slide guide whereby the supply of pressure medium to the region in front of the throttle arrangement is regulated depending upon the balance position of the control slide with increasing throttling by excess pressure in the first axial direction. Furthermore, the pressure medium of the system is employed as a remote control medium by effecting a controlled ''''tapping off'''' of pressure medium from the quantity control valve via a remote control valve and an associated single conduit connection to a remotely disposed pressure discharge source. The balance position of the control slide is thus regulated and the supply of pressure medium to the hydraulic component is controlled according to need.
