    • A switching apparatus, system, and method configured to operate at least a dual line downhole tool via a single pressure source are provided. The switching apparatus may comprise a housing configured to contain a switching piston actuated by a fluid pressure source. The apparatus may further contain a switching valve comprising a first and second coupling passageway coupled to a switching valve housing comprising four ports. The switching piston may actuate the switching valve, alternating the coupling between a first configuration in which the four ports are communicatively coupled into two sets of ports and a second configuration in which the four ports are communicatively coupled into an alternate two sets of ports. The first configuration may configure the fluid pressure source to actuate the downhole tool in a first manner and the second configuration may configure the fluid pressure source to actuate the downhole tool in a second manner.

    • A switching apparatus, system, and method configured to operate at least a dual line downhole tool via a single pressure source are provided. The switching apparatus may comprise a housing configured to contain a switching piston actuated by a fluid pressure source.     • Embodiments and methods are disclosed herein that relate to a connection assembly to communicatively couple one or more cables to each other. The connection assembly includes a cable having a housing with a communication line disposed therein, a connection apparatus having a housing with a communication line disposed therein, and a weld coupling disposed between an end of the housing of the connection apparatus and an end of the housing of the cable such that the end of the housing of the connection apparatus and the end of the housing of the cable are connected to each other through the weld coupling. The communication line of the connection apparatus is communicatively coupled to the communication line of the cable, and the end of the housing of the connection apparatus has substantially the same diameter as the end of the housing of the cable.

    • A technique enables failsafe control over actuators used to actuate downhole tools. The technique may utilize a well system having a tool with an adjustable member. An actuation mechanism serves as a fail-as-is mechanism and works in cooperation with the adjustable member. The actuation member is shiftable upon receiving a predetermined input; however the actuation member does not move the adjustable member upon each shift. Once the actuation member has been shifted the requisite number of times to move the adjustable member to another position, at least one subsequent shift of the actuation member is not able to cause movement of the adjustable member. The result is a fail-as-is technique for ensuring the tool is not inadvertently actuated to another operational position.

Prepping may comprise inserting a plug assembly into at least one of the first or second ends prior to facing the end containing the plug assembly. The method may further include butt-welding the first end to the second end to form a splice and providing a protective assembly to cover the splice. The plug assembly may comprise a plug member, a seal, and an end piece to couple the seal to the plug member, in some embodiments. In other embodiments, the plug assembly may comprise a plug member and a seal coupled to the plug member.

    • A technique enables failsafe control over actuators used to actuate downhole tools. The technique may utilize a well system having a tool with an adjustable member. An actuation mechanism serves as a fail-as-is mechanism and works in cooperation with the adjustable member.
