摘要： A method for producing a fiberoptic fan-out includes creating a splice joint between a first fiberoptic cable and two or more second fiberoptic cables, such that at the splice joint, each of a plurality of first optical fibers in the first fiberoptic cable is spliced to a respective second optical fiber in one of the second fiberoptic cables. A tube slides over the cables to a position at which the splice joint is contained inside the tube. While the splice joint is contained inside the tube, the tube is filled with a fixative so as to fix the splice joint in the position.

The end portions of the claddings of the plurality of input optical fibers are bundled on at least a first end face side, with the adjacent side surfaces of the claddings being in contact with each other. The glass member has an outer diameter greater than the diameter of the core and smaller than the outer diameter of the cladding. The adjacent glass members are in a non-fusion-spliced state.

摘要： A micro splice protector for a fusion connection between a pair of optical fibers takes the form of a cylindrical sleeve of dimensions similar to that of the fusion splice itself, with an epoxy material used to encase the fusion splice within the sleeve. The sleeve is formed to exhibit an inner diameter only slightly greater than the outer diameter of the optical fibers, with the length of the sleeve typically formed to be only slightly longer than the stripped end terminations of the pair of fibers being spliced together. The cylindrical sleeve is formed of a rigid, but lightweight, material (e.g., stainless steel, fused silica) and an epoxy material is injected into the configuration to fill any gaps between the fusion connection and the inner surface of the sleeve. The result is relatively stiff fusion splice protector that is extremely small in size and well-suited for use in optical component packages where space is at a minimum.
