    • Encoding/decoding systems and methods for use with data signals representing speech, audio, video, and/or other types of information, including, but not limited, to EKG, surround sound, seismic signals, and others. These systems and methods encode signal parameters into a plurality of frames, each frame having a predetermined number of bits. The encoder encodes signals into frames that are of longer duration than a transmission (or storage) interval, except in cases where signals may be characterized by an axis other than time, such as image or video-coded signals, wherein the encoder codes signals into frames that are larger than the coded segment. When no bits are lost during data transmission (or storage), the decoder uses the received (or retrieved) bits to reconstruct segments having a length equal to the transmission (or storage) interval. When a frame erasure occurs, the decoder uses the received (or retrieved) bits to reconstruct segments having a length that is greater than the transmission (or storage) interval. This technique reduces the need for interpolation- or extrapolation-based techniques for error concealment. The invention can also be used as an enhancement layer for standard or other prior art coding systems. In such cases, an existing coding scheme may operate as a base layer, and the present invention can be used as enhancement layer for less than ideal communication environments, by coding additional look-ahead and/or look-back parameters.

    • Methods and systems for providing automated measurement, adaptation and setup of voice communication system using one or more reference signals. An audio device is automatically configured at or near commencement of establishment of a communications path, such that the configuration is performed in a minimally humanly discernible manner. The methods comprise transmitting one or more predetermined reference signals into an acoustic environment, receiving the transmitted signals from the acoustic environment to thereby provide received signals, and adjusting at least one of a speaker gain and a microphone gain in response to the received signals. Adjustment of audio circuits, such as amplifiers, may be performed based on a signal analysis of the received signals. Optionally, computing parameters and/or generating signals may be performed based on the signal analysis, and the computed parameters may be inputted to auxiliary systems such as audio enhancement, voice activity detector, speech coding and/or speech recognition systems. Computed parameters may be representative of background noise, delay between a generated audible signal and a corresponding input signal captured by a microphone, signal level, gain, energy, and other parameters that may be useful for subsequent audio recording, storage, enhancement, coding, or recognition system.

    • Automated interaction systems and methods for use with and/or respond to automated sound-enabled systems, commonly called Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems. The invented method involves with some or all of the followings; (a) recording information, (b) analyzing signals, (c) initiating and/or participating in communication call, (d) detecting the presence of human individual (instead of IVR system) in the call, (e) signal the caller about such human individual presence, and/or (f) signaling in order to initiate communication and/or call transfer to another destination. This technique can reduce the time spent on, cost involved with, distraction caused by, and need to being put on hold, and/or the need to manually operate or respond to the common IVR systems. The invention can completely or partially release the caller, or assist her/him, during such a process. In costly connections such as wireless, cellular, long distance, or international calls, the method and system can be utilized by a system that is located such that its connection is cheaper than the caller's connection, the system notifies or responds to the caller only when needed, and hence reduces the caller's charges, and improves its reachability and availability via communication devices and/or networks.
