    • The invention presents an apparatus for measuring the dimensions of human feet. The apparatus is comprised of a base (20) and a cover (2), which fits over it to define the borders of two essentially rectangular wells (3, 31) in the upper surface of said base, into which the feet to be measured are placed. Pressure pads (5, 5′) containing a sensor are placed at the bottom of each well and the perimeters of the well, are surrounded by arrays comprised of a multitude of emitter/detector pairs, which are used to make length and width measurements of said feet. In addition, computational means, which calculate the dimensions of the feet from data from the pressure pads and emitter/detector pairs and display means are provided. The apparatus is characterized in that the computational means comprises a software algorithm, which uses information supplied by the pressure pads to correct errors in the length and width measurements caused by misplacement/misalignment of the feet in the wells and the emitters and corresponding detectors are provided in two contiguous levels spaced in a way that increases the accuracy of the measurements. A method of using the apparatus is also presented.

    • The invention is a split-thermo-electric structure for cooling, heating, or stabilizing the temperature of an object or for electric power generation. The structure of the invention is comprised of one or more legs comprised of two or more layers of thermo-electric material and a connection layer (26) between each pair of successive layers of thermo-electric material. A layer of thermo-electric material at one end of each of the legs is located at the heat absorption side of the structure and a layer of thermo-electric material at the other end of each of the legs is located at the heat dispersion side of the structure. The structure is characterized in that the layer of thermo-electric material located at the heat absorption side of the structure and the layer of thermo-electric material at the heat dispersion side of the structure are asymmetric, i.e. the properties and parameters of the material of the layers are chosen to maximize the transfer of heat flux at the heat absorption and dispersion sides of the structure respectively. Additionally the thermal, electrical and thermo-electric properties and dimensions of all other layers of thermo-electric material and connection layers that comprise the remainder of the legs are chosen individually to maximize the transfer of heat flux and/or electric current through the leg.

    • The invention is a non-surgical method for the eradication of pigmentation and scar tissue from an area of skin. The method comprises repeatedly puncturing the area of skin with an array of needles. As the needles are inserted into the skin, the needles and surface of the skin are washed with a clean solution. As the needles are withdrawn from the skin, the flow of clean solution ceases and the dirty solution, which contains cellular fluids and pigments released by the action of the needles, is removed from the surface. The invention is also a solution, which is used to clean the needles and to aid in destroying the pigment containing cells, and an apparatus, which is especially designed to move the needles into and out of the surface of the skin and to provide synchronization of the motion of the needles and flow of the solution such as to maximize the effectiveness of the method.
