    • The present invention provides a process for reducing the nitrogen content of a liquid hydrocarbon feed wherein said process comprises a) contacting a liquid hydrocarbon feed comprising an alkylating agent and organic nitrogen species with an acidic catalyst at elevated temperature in a first reaction zone to generate a liquid hydrocarbon feed comprising a reduced alkylating agent content and organic nitrogen species of higher boiling point. b) fractionating the liquid hydrocarbon feed comprising a reduced alkylating agent content and organic nitrogen species of higher boiling point to remove the organic nitrogen species of higher boiling point to generate a liquid hydrocarbon feed comprising a reduced alkylating agent content and a reduced nitrogen content.

    • Disclosed are fuel compositions for internal combustion engines comprising as a predominant component organic distillates which exhibit suitable physical properties, and a low-sulfur fraction of an alkylated petroleum feedstock which, for example, consisted of material boiling between about 60° C. and about 345° C. More particularly, compositions of the invention comprise low-boiling, low-sulfur, blending components, advantageously obtained by a process for converting sulfur-containing organic compounds which are unwanted impurities, to higher boiling products by alkylation and removing the higher boiling products by fractional distillation. Products can be used directly as transportation fuels and/or blending components to provide fuels which are more friendly to the environment.

    • A system for dewatering a stream of slurry has a first and a second separator. The first separator removes objects above a first size, to produce a stream of primary treated slurry. The second separator removes objects above a second size from the primary treated stream, the second size being smaller than the first size. Optionally, a third separator removes objects above a yet smaller third size from the stream of secondary treated slurry. The first separator has a plurality of sieve mat supports alternately connected to a main support frame section and a movable support frame section so that the flexible sieve mat can be agitated by the movable support frame section, a collector being provided for collecting the primary treated slurry passing through the flexible sieve mat. In an optional step, water contained in the separated solids is removed.
