    • A revolving door system has a central axis defining center shaft and three wing hangers rigidly joined and extending in equidistant spaced apart relationship about the center shaft's upper portion. Pivots couple three planar upright wings in closely spaced apart relationship to the center shaft. A magnetic latch on each wing hanger is spaced apart from the central axis more remote than the pivot, releasably maintaining the wings in ganged alignment with the hangers.A pair of facing substantially semicircular walls, spaced apart to define regions of ingress and egress, partially surrounds the wings and shaft on opposite sides. Each wall has two adjacent movable side panels hinged on opposite sides of a center panel, movable from a nominally enclosing position to an open panic position.Disposed remote from the adjacent side panel, a magnetic latch releasably maintains the side panels in circular alignment with the enclosure. A smoke detector is coupled to the electromagnetic latch means to cause a disengagement of the latch means in response to an indication.In a panic situation, release of the latch allows the wings to be released from the hangers and pivoted freely while the side panels are allowed to pivot about the hinges to enhance the egress frontage to thereby potentially increase the flow of people exiting from the building structure.

    • A security system for allowing selective access to a secured area generally comprises first and second three wing center shaft ganged revolving door structures, each partially surrounded by upright facing curved side walls disposed in spaced apart relationship to define a mid-zone. A digital combination lock at the first entryway provides initial access. Any two wings of the revolving doors have an angular span less than that traversed by each side panel to define a lockable detection chamber. A gas ionization explosives detector is coupled to the detection chamber. The mid-zone comprises metal and X-ray detectors and a hand geometry reader. The second revolving door has an entryway actuatable by a pass card reader. The second revolving door provides access to the secure region.In operation, an individual seeking access punches a combination lock releasing the first revolving door allowing the wings to rotate and then lock, enclosing a detection chamber in which the individual is confined. The explosives detector is actuated and samples air from the chamber to determine if explosives are present. A negative detection response releases the center shaft, the wings rotatable to a position allowing entry to the mid-zone. The individual then passes across the metal detector. Personal belongings are passed through the X-ray device. A badge, obtained at a guard station after palm reader identification, actuates the second revolving door, allowing access to the secure region.

    • A controller driven revolving door system has facing spaced apart curved panels partially enclosing three equiangularly spaced center shaft coupled wings and defining entry and exit openings. The controller automatically selectively directs traffic flow through the entry and exit openings and is responsive to a microwave motion detector at the entry and a mat switch in a quarter-point position accessable to the exit. A DC motor is coupled by a gearing assembly to the center shaft. The controller monitors current passing through the motor windings sensing shaft rotation. Responsive to the mat switch, the controller applies a resistive load to the DC motor windings to regeneratively brake the rotation of the door. The controller thereafter reverses the polarity of the motor windings causing the door to rotate in a reverse direction and back any individual out of the exit area. Drum edge switches on the curved panels sense interference with foreign objects to cause the controller to regeneratively brake, halting rotation of the center shaft. A handicapped person switch is provided to reduce motor current and reduce shaft rotation speed.
