    • An anti-coring device for a surgical morcellator, which morcellator has a rotatable cutting blade having a sharpened edge and an outer sleeve that is axially moveable on the cutting blade, includes a shield mounted on the distal end of the outer sleeve and axially moveable therewith to selectively cover and at least partially uncover the sharpened edge of the rotatable cutting blade. The shield includes a main body and a protrusion extending axially from the main body and partially about the circumference of the cutting blade. The shield is axially positionable on the cutting blade so that is selectively covers the entire circumference of the sharpened edge of the cutting blade with its main body or only covers a portion of the circumference of the sharpened edge of the cutting blade with its protrusion, leaving the remaining portion of the sharpened edge exposed.

    • A surgical clip applying instrument is disclosed which includes a handle portion, a body extending distally from the handle portion and defining a longitudinal axis, and a plurality of surgical clips disposed within the body. A jaw assembly is mounted adjacent a distal end portion of the body. The jaw assembly includes first and second jaw portions movable between a spaced-apart and an approximated position. A clip pusher is provided to individually distally advance a distalmost surgical clip to the jaw assembly while the jaw portions are in the spaced-apart position. An actuator at least partially disposed within the body is longitudinally movable in response to actuation of the handle portion. A jaw closure member is positioned adjacent the first and second jaw portions to move the jaw portions to the approximated position. The actuator and the jaw closure member define an interlock therebetween to produce simultaneous movement of the actuator and the jaw closure member when the actuator is positioned adjacent the distal end portion of the body.

    • Valve assembly for sealed reception of an elongated object includes a valve body having at least one opening configured and dimensioned to permit entry of an elongated object and defining a central longitudinal axis, an elongated seal member formed of a resilient material and defining an aperture in general alignment with the opening of the valve body whereby the aperture is configured and dimensioned such that insertion of the object into the aperture causes the resilient material defining the aperture to resiliently engage the outer surface of the object in a substantially fluid flight manner, and at least one elongated guard member disposed within the seal member in supporting contact with the inner surface thereof. The guard member is positioned to engage the elongated object upon at least partial insertion of the elongated object into the valve body. The guard member includes at least a first substantially rigid portion adapted to be displaced relative to the longitudinal axis to facilitate expansion of the aperture of the seal member upon entry of the object therein and a second portion having less rigidity than the first portion of the guard member to enhance passage of the elongated object through the valve body.

    • A cutting blade for a surgical morcellator has a distal end and a sharpened cutting edge situated at the distal end for transecting tissue to form tissue morsels, the cutting blade being structured to minimize contact between the sharpened edge and a tissue grasping instrument used with the morcellator during a surgical procedure. The cutting blade includes a generally cylindrically-shaped sidewall defining an axial bore for the passage of transected tissue morsels therethrough, the sidewall having an outer surface residing generally in a first cylindrical plane, an inner surface residing generally in a second cylindrical plane, and a sloped surface, the inner surface of the sidewall being disposed radially inwardly of the outer surface of the sidewall, the sloped surface extending transversely between the inner surface and the outer surface in the direction of the distal end of the cutting blade and joining the outer surface at an acute angle to define with the outer surface the sharpened cutting edge, the sharpened cutting edge residing in the first cylindrical plane in which the outer surface of the sidewall generally resides, wherein the sloped surface of the cutting blade sidewall extends radially inwardly beyond the second cylindrical plane in which the inner surface of the cutting blade sidewall generally resides to define a circular protrusion situated radially inwardly of the inner surface for selective engagement with the tissue grasping instrument used with the morcellator during a surgical procedure.
