    • In a method for cold rolling profiles on the circumference of a rotating cylindrical workpiece, using tool worms of appropriate profile, the worms performing generating motions corresponding to the profile required in successive part-rolling operations by being moved relative to the workpiece in a closed-circuit locus path having one axis which is in the direction of and smaller than the tooth depth, and which substantially smaller than another axis of said locus which is in the direction of tooth length or thickness, with each part-rolling operation being performed over the entire tooth facewidth while the tools are retained, over the workpiece width, in their dead center position which is a position on said locus innermost relative to the axis of the workpiece, the profile being preformed by progressive radial feed of the operating stroke of the tools and with a number of enveloping planes, and the profile being subsequently, finish-formed with a larger number of enveloping planes and with an unchanged inner dead center position of the tool worms.

    • In an automatically engaging and disengaging dog clutch between an input shaft and an output shaft, comprising a first straighttoothed clutch boss, a second helical-tooth clutch boss, an axially slidable clutch spider and a synchronizing sleeve which is retained against axial movement in the clutch spider but is rotatable therein and is connected by screw-threading means of coarse pitch to the second clutch boss, said clutch spider being in constant mesh by way of straight-tooth gearing with the first clutch boss and being adapted for optional engagement with and disengagement from the second clutch boss, automatic clutch engagement being obtained by virtue of the relative engagement phase between the clutch spider and the second clutch boss being sensed by pawls which are adapted to mesh with a ratchet tooth system of the synchronizing sleeve, the clutch spider in a first engagement phase being partially engaged with the second clutch boss due to a helical motion which corresponds to the said coarse-pitch screw thread, the clutch spider, in a second engagement phase, is fully engaged with the second clutch boss as far as a stop under the effect of a torque exerted by the input shaft on the output shaft, the pitch of the helical gear tooth system of the second clutch boss being greater than the pitch of the said coarse screw thread, so that the sensing pawls are disengaged during the second engagement phase and therefore do not participate in transmitting power when the clutch is engaged.

In a toothed gear having parallel driving and driven shafts 18, 15 carrying pinions 1, 14, interconnected by pinions 10-13 on two intermediate shafts 8, 9, the driving shaft 18 is free to move transversely in a plane containing the axes of driving and driven shafts so as to ensure that, for a predetermined load, the load is transmitted equally through the two intermediate shafts. The webs 25 bend to permit transverse movement of the shaft 18 and the bearings 2 or 23 are interconnected by struts 4. The vertical component of toothed pressure, for the predetermined load, is balanced by a spring 31 acting on the bearings.
