    • The present invention relates to heat control and cooling of an optoelectrical unit, which converts between electrical and optical signal formats. The optoelectrical unit contains at least one optoelectrical capsule positioned on a circuit board. A primary heat sink is adapted to receive heat energy dissipated from the capsule. The capsule is oriented on the circuit board, such that it presents a relatively small footprint thereon and, at the same time, rises relatively large area sides, which do not face directly towards the circuit board. The primary heat sink has at least one cavity, which is adapted to the shape and dimensions of the capsule, such that the cavity contains at least one capsule. The primary heat couples thermally well to the capsule. Furthermore, the capsules assist in aligning the primary heat sink in its intended position.

    • The present invention relates to optimization of communication equipment with respect to size and undesired signal interference. To this aim a ceramic feedthrough interconnection assembly is proposed in order to transport an electrical information signal to and from a communication capsule. In addition to at least one signal lead (103a, 103b) for communicating an electrical information signal, the assembly contains at least one auxiliary lead and a shield (103c, 103d, 104, 104a, 104b, 104f) that electrically shields the at least one signal lead (103a, 103b) from the at least one auxiliary lead. The shield (103c, 103d, 104, 104a, 104b, 104f) has such dimensions (d1, d2) and is positioned at such distance (d3, d4, d12) from the at least one signal lead (103a, 103b) that the electrical information signal experiences a well-defined and substantially constant impedance in the assembly. This in turn, minimizes the risk of undesired signal reflections. At the same time the assembly allows a high lead density, i.e. short distances between the leads.

    • The present invention relates to an optoelectrical unit for converting information signals between an electrical signal format and an optical signal format. The proposed unit includes a circuit board, which contains at least one optoelectrical capsule. Each capsule is positioned on the circuit board, such that its footprint towards the circuit board has a smaller area than the area of a largest side of the capsule. Moreover, each capsule includes a feedthrough, which electrically connects one or more components therein to circuitry on the circuit board via a plurality of leads. The feedthrough also contains a shield, which electrically shields at least one signal lead from at least one auxiliary lead. The feedthrough is adapted for positioning the optoelectrical capsule at an arbitrary adapted location on the circuit board.

    • The present invention provides a method and apparatus for hot-pluggable electronic component connection. In one embodiment of the present invention, ground and power line couplings with a system are formed by moving the component in one direction while signal line couplings with the system are formed by moving the component in another direction. In one embodiment, a guide rail system causes a hot-pluggable component to move in a direction which couples, first, the ground line and, then, the power lines to the system. After the ground and power lines are connected, the guide rail system causes the component to move in another direction which couples the signal lines to the system. In another embodiment, a latching mechanism holds the component in place once the signal lines are coupled to the system. In this embodiment, an ejection system releases the latching mechanism and allows removal of the component. In one embodiment of the present invention, signal lines are coupled to the system in the same plane as a PCB. In this embodiment, the area used for signal line couplings is increased when more signal lines are present. Thus, signal lines are added without increasing space requirement of the component or decreasing the fault tolerance of signal line couplings. In one embodiment of the present invention, the component is an optical transceiver. In one embodiment, connections are made using an anisotropic conductive elastomer. In one embodiment, a ground pattern is etched into the component and the PCB circumscribing the signal line connections.

    • A medical device has a cuff adapted to be positioned in the trachea of a subject with a patient tube, and a first tube having a distal end coupled to the cuff and a proximal end communicable with the surroundings.
