    • This is provided a sealed adjustable lens focusing assembly including a lens barrel having a substantially tubular body and oppositely spaced barrel ends. The barrel is preferably sealed adjacent its opposite ends by optical windows, and a focusing lens is reciprocably mounted within the barrel for selective adjustment along a predetermined longitudinal focal axis. A longitudinally reciprocable drive member is provided which extends inwardly into the tubular body of the lens barrel for selectively moving the lens along the focal axis. An expandable tubular sealing member having a longitudinally expandable tubular wall with oppositely disposed retainer ends is concentrically telescoped over the lens barrel. The retainer ends are preferrably sealed in spaced relationship along the barrel, and the reciprocable drive member is connected to the focusing lens through the wall member intermediate the retainer ends. The sealing member provides an effective static seal about the lens barrel while permitting longitudinal adjustment of the focusing lens therewithin.

    • A motor mount for reducing vibration and noise associated with motor load imbalances. The mount includes a one-piece elastomeric support having a motor attachment portion from which a plurality of supporting legs extend. Prior to assembly, the amount has a planar configuration. In assembly, the motor attachment portion is positioned around and secured to the motor by a clamp. Brackets are provided to secure the legs to a base. The mount provides the motor with pivotal freedom of motion but prevents substantial vertical displacement of the motor. The motor mount is well suited for use in centrifuges and other apparatus in which load imbalances cause vibration. In one embodiment, the mount includes three legs so that, in assembly, the mount is tripod-like.

    • A compact slide spinner is disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, the compact slide spinner is used to prepare smears for microscopic evaluation. The spinner incorporates a disposable or reusable slide holder which encases a portion of a slide onto which the material to be smeared is placed. The holder containing the slide is then accelerated by spinning. Specimen fluid not adhering to the slide is contained within the slide holder which is discarded following preparation of the smear. Using this low-cost device, a uniform quality smear is quickly and easily prepared, while reducing the risk that laboratory personnel will be exposed to aerosol borne contagions.

    • There is provided a quick-release coupling assembly for an endoscopic ocular, the assembly including an ocular mounting surface having an aperture and a longitudinal axis preferably passing through the center of the aperture on the mounting surface. A stationary guidewall is preferably radially spaced from and substantially concentric with the aperture of the ocular mounting surface, and the guidewall at least partially encircles the aperture to define an alignment recess adjacent the mounting surface for receiving the proximal end of an endoscopic ocular. At least one gripping jaw is provided for axial reciprocation and having a clamping position and a release position. The jaw comprises an inner tab which extends outwardly from the mounting surface, a retainer flange extending radially inwardly, and an engagement surface which may preferably be angularly disposed relative the axis. When reciprocated to the release position, the engagement surface is outside of the alignment recess, and when reciprocated to the clamping position, it can engage a portion of the proximal end of an ocular eyepiece positioned within the alignment recess. In a preferred embodiment, the assembly includes a pair of oppositely disposed gripping jaws for releasably engaging the proximal end of an ocular to be coupled. The engagement surface of the jaw may also include a tapered lip to readily accommodate ocular eyepieces of various sizes and shapes.
