    • A flat panel detector (FPD) includes an imaging panel having pixels arranged in a matrix, a gate driver for turning thin film transistors (TFTs) of the pixels ON and OFF, a radiation detecting section for detecting the start of x-ray radiation from the x-ray source, and a controller. The controller controls the gate driver to turn the TFTs ON periodically to reset dark charges of the pixels. Before starting a charge accumulating operation for accumulating signal charges for imaging, the controller controls the gate driver to turn the TFTs OFF so that the radiation detecting section may detect the start of x-ray radiation on the basis of charge leaks from the pixels. When the start of x-ray radiation is detected, the controller starts the charge accumulating operation while keeping the TFTs in the OFF condition. Thereafter, the TFTs are turned ON to read out the accumulated signal charges.

    • A surface-mounted electromagnetic sound generator includes a yoke accommodated inside a case, a coil attached to the yoke, a ring-shaped magnet placed about the coil, a vibration plate disposed to oppose the yoke and a plurality of surface-mounted electrodes. The underside of the magnet is provided with a plurality of recesses at symmetrical positions thereof, each recess extending through the magnet in tunnel-like fashion from the inner circumferential surface to the outer circumferential surface of the magnet. Terminals of the coil are connected to respective ones of the electrodes in respective ones of the recesses of the magnet. Thus the connections fall within the space occupied by the magnet.

    • A flat panel detector has an imaging area, in which pixels are arrayed in a matrix and signal lines for reading out electric signals from the pixels are provided, to detect an image of a subject from x-rays which are incident on the imaging area after penetrating the subject. Detective elements are arranged in the imaging area, to output electric signals corresponding to incident x-rays. Based on previously stored sensitivity data on the detective elements, high-sensitivity elements are selected from among the detective elements. The start of radiation and the end of radiation of x-rays toward the imaging area are detected by monitoring the electric signals from the selected high-sensitivity elements, to control operation of the imaging device on the basis of the detected start and end of radiation.

    • A flat speaker includes a casing with a display window, a vibratory sound panel mounted to the display window and having a display region and an exciter mount region, a display screen disposed internally of the display region, and an exciter mounted to the inner surface of the exciter mount region. A dust barrier is disposed to isolate a first space defined between the display region and the display screen from a second space surrounding the first space. The dust barrier has a dust barrier member disposed between the display region and the exciter mount region and extending across the vibratory sound panel to inhibit dust particles from moving from said exciter mount region to said display region within said casing. The dust barrier member is yieldingly deformable in response to vibration of said vibratory sound panel.
