    • A vacuum pipe for use in a synchrotron orbit radiation device includes a vacuum pipe body made of a thin non-magnetic material surrounding a charged particle beam propagating on an annular path, a port portion cell interposed in the vacuum pipe body surrounding part of the path, and a port mounted on the port wall tangential to the path for introducing radiation. The vacuum pipe body has a smooth inner wall surface and reinforcing ribs on an outer wall surface. A wall of the port portion cell located on an outer diameter side of the path is oblique to the wall of the port portion cell on the inner diameter side.

    • A levitator which is mounted on a space station; for example, for use in material science experiments in space. The levitator has a position detector for detecting the position of a sample, a variable power supply whose output voltage varies in accordance with the signal output from the position detector, a pair of planar electrodes connected to two ends, respectively, of the variable power supply and disposed in opposing relation to each other, and a ring electrode disposed so as to surround each of the planar electrodes and to which is applied a higher voltage than that applied to the corresponding planar electrode from a DC power supply, thereby holding the sample stationary at a desired position by means of the planar and ring electrodes. The levitator further has a means for rotating the sample being held stationary. Thus, it is possible to rotate the sample in a controlled manner and hence possible to carry out an experiment in which the sample is uniformly heated in a microgravity environment.

    • An automatic impact driver for applying a large torque to a tip chuck by only pressing down a casing so as to remove corroded screws etc. A cylindrical slider freely movable in an axial direction is disposed in the casing, a cam mechanism is installed in between the slider and the chuck, and the chuck is turned by applying an impact force on a plunger through the slider. Since the impact driver is constructed as described above, a loss of impact transmitting force is decreased as compared with a conventional structure in which the slider is directly struck by the casing.
