    • A sub-soil wastewater treatment vessel, especially for wastewater produced by single family residences and small businesses and the like. The vessel is divided into at least three contiguous chambers by at least two transverse walls, forming at least two contiguous aeration chambers and a clarifier chamber. Wastewater flows into the first aeration chamber via an influent line, thence through an opening in the first transverse wall into the second aeration chamber. From there, wastewater flows through passages at the bottom of the second transverse wall into the clarifier chamber. Air is supplied to the first and second aeration chambers via low pressure diffuser lines. Three inclined surfaces within the clarifier chamber direct solids through passages in the second transverse wall back into the second aeration chamber for further processing. An effluent line connected to the clarifier chamber permits wastewater outflow.

    • The present invention relates to an improved resistance weld-based gun assembly for use in an electric welding system without a need for plant-provided air and water-cooling circulation systems. In one aspect of the invention, a resistance-based force controller measures the resistance of a secondary circuit of the weld gun, the combined resistance of the secondary circuit in parallel with the circuit formed by the workpieces and opposing electrodes when sandwiched between the electrodes, and calculates the resistance of the workpieces. The measured resistance is compared to a predetermined resistance and the sandwiching force of the electrodes incrementally adjusted until the resistance of the workpieces is acceptable. The invention also relates to a closed loop coolant system having a coolant line, a coolant contained within the coolant line, a heat exchanger, and a mechanical coolant pump. One possible pump comprises an elastic bladder dependent upon the state change of the coolant. A second possible pump comprises a reciprocating extractor mechanically connected to the weld gun actuator. In yet another aspect of the invention, the welding system relies solely on electrode arm material for heat dissipation, the heat being conducted through the electrode arm material to an outer surface of the arm where the heat is dissipated through natural convection. To promote natural convection, a plurality of ribs with channels defined therebetween or openings extending through the arm itself increase the surface area and the rate of convection.

    • A sub-soil apparatus for treatment of domestic wastewater and sewage, such as that generated from single family residences, small apartment buildings, small offices and the like. The apparatus includes two contiguous chambers, the first chamber being a mixing/aeration chamber, and the second being a settling/separation chamber. A transverse wall with lower lateral passages divides the two chambers but allows liquid and solid exchange between the two chambers. The mixing/aeration chamber accepts the sewage to be treated, and turbulent mixing and aeration is achieved therein by a transverse aeration bar. After mixing and aeration, which results in biodegradation of the sewage, the biodegraded liquid, containing fine solids, passes into the settling/separation chamber where quiescent conditions promote solid settling. Three inclined walls of the settling/separation chamber direct settled solids back into the mixing/aeration chamber for further biodegradation. A multiple angle discharge fitting also discourages solids from entering the effluent line.

    • An industrial resistance welding workcell includes a robot controller and robot, a welding control, and an overall workcell control in a form of a programmable logic controller and electronically-controlled electrically-actuator assembly is coupled to the wrist of a robot arm, which is further coupled to a conventional welding gun. The actuator assembly is controlled by an actuator control to vary the tip separation distance to any one of a virtually infinite number of separation distances, and further, is adapted to control a clamping force with a high degree of accuracy. The workcell further includes a tool used to secure a workpiece or workpieces. The tools characterized by use of an electronically-controlled electrically-actuated clamp for securing the position of the workpiece or workpieces relative to the base of the tool. Use of electrically-actuated clamps, and actuator assembly for the weld gun eliminates the need for use of plant-provided facilities, particularly compressed air and the dense packs, surge tanks, and air cylinders associated therewith as used in conventional resistance welding workcells. Furthermore, the workcell has associated therewith a self-contained closed loop cooling system, mounted under the robot base, that substantially eliminates the host of feed and return cooling hoses that are commonly found on conventional resistance well workcells. The all-electric workcell significantly reduces workcell down time, and material and labor cost, while improving overall system performance.
