    • Architectures for imager arrays configured for use in array cameras in accordance with embodiments of the invention are described. One embodiment of the invention includes a plurality of focal planes, where each focal plane comprises a two dimensional arrangement of pixels having at least two pixels in each dimension and each focal plane is contained within a region of the imager array that does not contain pixels from another focal plane, control circuitry configured to control the capture of image information by the pixels within the focal planes, where the control circuitry is configured so that the capture of image information by the pixels in at least two of the focal planes is separately controllable, sampling circuitry configured to convert pixel outputs into digital pixel data, and output interface circuitry configured to transmit pixel data via an output interface.

    • The invention provides an electrode comprising an electrically conductive material having a surface capable of producing surface enhanced Raman scattering of incident light from an adsorbate material adsorbed on the surface of the electrode. The adsorbate is substantially reducible and not substantially oxidizable. The surface of the electrode can be microroughened and include, for example, a plurality of adatoms or clusters of adatoms of a metallic material. The adatoms or clusters of adatoms form sites for photocatalysis of electroreduction when the electrode is irradiated with a light source. The invention also includes a method for making the electrode, and a method of generating electricity using the electrode. In accordance with a further aspect of the invention, a fuel cell is provided including the electrode of the invention.

    • There is disclosed a pipe coupling (13) for coupling the ends of pipe sections (10 and 11) together end to end. The coupling includes a barrel member (19) adapted to bridge and surround the ends of the pipe sections to be coupled, and, together with coupling members (20), adapted to engage the ends of the barrel sections, and elastomeric sealing rings (21) adapted to be forced by the coupling members into the ends of the barrel member and expanded radially outwardly and inwardly into tight sealing engagement within the end of the barrel member and around the circumferences of the pipe sections being coupled. Substantially tangentially extending bolts (22) are utilised to couple the respective coupling members to the barrel member, and means (29, 30) on the inside of the coupling members, and on the outside of the barrel member, to interact and progressively twist the coupling members along the barrel member to force the sealing rings into tight sealing engagement with the inside of the barrel member and around the circumference of the pipe sections being coupled. There is also disclosed a coupling which has a barrel member which forms part of one of the pipe sections to be joined and only one coupling member and sealing ring is used to couple the barrel member to the other pipe section.

    • The present invention provides a method and apparatus for calibrating a black level in an imager to reduce flicker noise. A first and a second range is set. The first range corresponds to a range that is larger than a noise level at a highest PGA gain. The second range corresponds to a range that is smaller than a level which reduces an ADC dynamic range too much due to a large black level. The ranges may be adjusted to changes in an imager in real time. When the black level is within the second range a determination is made as to whether the black level has been calibrated before. When it has, the DAC output is held constant. Otherwise the DAC code is adjusted such that the black level is moved toward the first range. A small step size is used in adjusting the DAC code in order to reduce flicker. Step sizes may be adjusted according to the black level in relation to the ranges. A small step size is used when the black level is within the second range. A large step size is used when the black level is beyond the second range.
