    • Disclosed herein is a method for parameter identification in a switched reluctance electric machine comprising: operating the switched reluctance electric machine in response to a desired command; and measuring an actual operating characteristic of the switched reluctance electric machine. The method also includes: modeling the switched reluctance electric machine to formulate an estimated operating characteristic based on the desired command; comparing the actual operating characteristic and the estimated operating characteristic to formulate an error there between; and determining a parameter estimate for the switched reluctance machine based on the error and a previous parameter estimate. Also disclosed herein is a system for estimating a parameter for a switched reluctance electric machine comprising: a switched reluctance electric machine including a sensor generating and transmitting a sensor signal indicative of a sensed characteristic; and a controller operatively coupled to the sensors executing the abovementioned methodology.

    • An improved cutter pump subassembly for use in a centrifugal pump adapted for chopping and pumping an influent liquid containing solids is disclosed. In such a cutter pump, a suction inlet, discharge outlet, means for driving an impeller and a cutter pump subassembly are provided. The improved cutter pump subassembly comprises a housing, an impeller and a stationary cutter. The housing defines a pump chamber and contains the impeller. The housing also contains a centrally located suction aperture that receives the influent liquid and a spiral channel that conducts the liquid out of the housing. The impeller has a shroud and impeller vanes and is rotatably driven by the means for driving an impeller. The impeller vanes each have an outer circumferential end and an inner shearing edge. The stationary cutter is secured adjacent the suction aperture. The cutter has teeth each having at least one blade. The blades cooperate with the impeller vane shearing edges to cut solids contained in the influent liquid during rotation of the impeller.

    • Provided is a method of indirect position estimation in three-phase switched reluctance machines. The method may comprise providing a three-phase switched reluctance machine. A three-phase switched reluctance machine may comprise a rotor and three phases. The method may further comprise producing data about the machine, setting threshold current values for at least a first phase; and sensing rotor position. Sensing rotor position may comprise applying a sensing pulse voltage sufficient to induce a pulse current having some maximum amperage in the first phase, determining the amplitude of the maximum amperage of said pulse current with respect to the thresholds for the first phase, and determining the sector of the rotor based upon the amplitude of the maximum amperage of the pulse current in the first phase.

    • A system and methodology for control of a switched reluctance electric machine comprising: a switched reluctance electric machine including a sensor generating and transmitting a sensor signal indicative of an operating characteristic; a controller operatively coupled to the switched reluctance motor and the sensor; and the controller executing a method. The method comprises: probing a selected diagnostic phase with a pulse injection process; measuring an actual operating characteristic of the switched reluctance electric machine; computing an inductance based on the actual operating characteristic and correlating the inductance with a position to formulate an estimated position; modeling the switched reluctance electric machine to formulate an observer-based estimated position; selecting at one of the estimated position, the observer-based estimated position, and a combination thereof to formulate a selected position of the switched reluctance machine; and controlling said switched reluctance machine based on said selected position and a command.

    • A motor control system is provided. The motor control system includes a motor, a position sensor, a current sensor, and a control module. The motor has a rotor and a stator. The motor generates an output torque based on a phase current applied to the motor. The output torque generated by the motor creates a torque ripple that is within a predefined range. The position sensor monitors the motor to determine a rotor position. The current sensor monitors the motor to determine the phase current. The control module is in communication with the motor, the position sensor, and the current sensor. The control module includes a lookup table that stores values of phase current commands. The control module determines a phase current command from the lookup table based on the rotor position and the phase current.
