摘要： An Engine Start and Battery Support Module for a vehicle is provided that utilizes a bank of Ultra Capacitors (UCs) charged with or without running the vehicle's alternator to levels that support both engine starting assistance and hotel load support. The UCs' per-cell charge can be adjusted and raised during periods of low temperatures and even higher during ultralow temperatures. The adjustment, which can be dynamic and/or automatic, increases the UC energy storage capability. Further, the release of energy from the UCs is controlled by a pulse width modulation (PWM) controller based on the DC bus voltage. The UCs can be charged either from an onboard DC/DC converter, an AC hook up, or from smartly switching the banks of UCs between parallel and serial configurations.

摘要： The present disclosure includes various assemblies to be used with one or more energy storage devices. In one embodiment, an energy storage device assembly can include a plurality of energy storage devices, and each of these energy storage devices can include a first projecting electrode and a second projecting electrode. The energy storage devices can be connected to each other through a weld, which can directly bond the adjacent first and second projecting electrodes of adjacent energy storage devices to one another. This configuration can allow each of the energy storage devices to be connected together in series.

摘要： An EDLC device in which the double layer capacitors themselves are produced lithographically. The resultant EDLC can be of any capacitance and voltage combination for a particular application. The entire lithographically formed entity can be housed in a single container and rated according to its capacitance and voltage standoff characteristics. Through material control processes, the electrochemical composites developed onto the current collector is unilaterally equalized, providing the desired distributed voltage standoffs, thus promoting the ability to design high voltage independent cells without the normal electronic balancing circuitry associated with multiple series-connected electrochemical cells.

In some embodiments, an electrolyte formulation includes an ionic species, a solvent, and a stabilizer. In some embodiments the stabilizer contains a moiety that promotes adsorption to a surface, such as a carbon surface, and a moiety that promotes polarity of the stabilizer. In some embodiments, the solvent can be a nitrile compound and the stabilizer can be a compound of the formula I: Such that R is H, saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched, acyclic carbon group, OH, halogen NH2, NO2, S(O)2CF3, or monocyclic or polycyclic aryl, and n is an integer from 0 to 5.
