    • A pump has a flexible liner which is expanded and contracted by application of positive and negative fluid pressure for receiving and discharging fluent material. The liner is received in a rigid shell which defines the maximum volume received. In discharging fluent material, a vacuum is applied to one side of the liner, while applying pressure to the other side so the liner is collapsed against the rigid shell. The liner is arranged so as to be the only part of the pump which contacts the fluent material, and is replaceable to effect rapid and easy cleaning of the pump. The liner has multiple pump cells which can expand and contract for moving fluent material through the pump cell. The pump cells can be sized and arranged so that by selection of particular pump cells which receive the fluent material, precise volumes can be metered by the pump.

    • A hinged plate diaphragm pump comprising a pumping chamber defined by an inflexible member and a flexible member opposed thereto. The flexible member has at least three inflexible plates with edges in a common plane. Each plate has at least two straight plate hinge edges, each plate hinge edge being adjacent to and aligned with a second plate hinge edge of an adjacent plate, the adjacent edges of each plate hinge edge and second plate hinge edge is attached together by a flexible hinge strip. Preferably, the plates comprise at least one array of plates positioned about an axial center of symmetry perpendicular to the common plane. The hinged plates can be hingedly connected to a surrounding support plate and an axially central plate positioned at the axis of symmetry.

    • The refractive optical pressure sensor of this invention is a system for measuring the pressure of a liquid comprising a light source, a light detector and a capillary formed in a transparent solid. A refractive surface of the capillary is positioned in the light path of light from the light source. A light detector is positioned in the path of light originating from the light source which has been refracted by the refractive surface of the capillary filled with air but outside of the path of light which has been refracted by the refractive surface of the capillary filled with liquid. The inlet end of the capillary is open for communication with liquid to be monitored for pressure, and the other end of the capillary is closed or communicates with a closed reservoir. Small changes in liquid pressure change the amount of liquid in the capillary passageways, causing an easily detected change in sharply refracted light.
