The aerodynamic or airfoil structure may be in two or more sections that are extendible spanwise through operation of an internal mechanism. Structures of this type may comprise aircraft wings, rotor blades, control surfaces, spoilers, flaps or specialized airfoil devices for atmospheric or reentry vehicles. The airfoils may have either or both trailing and leading edges that are compactible and deployable.
