    • An apparatus for measuring the absorption index of a flowing liquid includes a measuring cell and a reference cell. Each cell is formed in the space between and confined by the reflectors of an interferometer of the spherical Perot-Fabry type. The cells are located in parallel in a common body and by means of a common piezo-electric tuning element the distance and thus the resonance frequency of each pair of reflectors can be uniformly varied in order to establish the resonance condition for each liquid in the cells. The voltage supplied to the piezo-electric tuning element for establishing the resonance condition is indicative of the relative absorption index of the liquid under test. The reference cell serves to compensate for unwanted disturbances by changes in temperature, in the flow rate and the like.

    • Circuitry for filtering a distinct variable spectral component includes a band-rejection filter formed by a summing amplifier with a feedback loop and a bandpass-filter connected to one of its inputs. The summing amplifier is connected to form the difference between the unfiltered spectrum at one of its inputs and the spectrum component to be suppressed at another of its inputs. The summing amplifier delivers the filtered signal spectrum at its output. A control circuit locks the common center frequency of the bandpass and band-rejection filters to the frequency of the spectral component to be suppressed.

    • A piezoelectric tuning element for precisely controlling the distance between two components has a pair of electrodes each located at opposing sides thereof and is supplied with a constant current over a predetermined first time interval establishing a charge of one polarity which is then completely withdrawn during a second time interval. Thereby a linearly increasing deflection from a predetermined initial value to a second precisely predetermined deflection value is caused during the first time interval, and a return to the initial value is achieved precisely, without appreciable hysteresis at the end of the second time interval. The initial level and polarity of the current at the beginning of the second time interval and the final level of the current and its polarity at the end of the second time interval are equal and correspond to the constant level of the current during the first time interval. Thereby a smooth transition from the deflection in one direction to the deflection in the other direction is caused.

    • A chamber for forceably mixing two streams of liquid under pressure comprising two continuous, parallel, pressure-resistant grid walls having an inlet means for each liquid stream to be mixed and an outlet means for the mixed liquid stream. Each grid wall is a metal screen having a grid aperture in the micron, Mu , range. The distance between the grid walls is in the mm-range and is at least five times less than the diameter of each grid wall. The flow resistance of the grid walls provides uniform distribution of each liquid over each grid wall. Owing to the negligible volume of the mixing chamber, forceable mixing of the liquids, partial volume per partial volume, is achieved with minimum time delay.
