    • Disclosed are a method for serially recording and optically reproducing X-ray images on a recording material and an apparatus for carrying out the method. The method comprises the steps of disposing the recording material in an ionization chamber filled with a gas which is ionizable by X-rays; applying a high voltage across the ionization chamber; passing the X-rays to be recorded into the ionization chamber; heating the recording material until a deformation image is formed according to the charge distribution produced during irradiation due to the ionization of the gas; optionally cooling and fixing of the deformation image; optically reproducing, the deformation image; re-heating the recording material in the ionization chamber until the deformation image is erased by smoothing; optionally cooling the recording material and repeating the entire recording cycle.

    • Disclosed are a method and apparatus for verifying an identification card or the like having visible indicia thereon and also having on a portion thereof a hologram of said visible indicia as originally placed on the identification card. The method comprises the steps of: producing an optical image of the visible indicia on the identification card; producing a reconstructed image of the hologram on the identification card; projecting the optical image and the reconstructed holographic image, in superimposed register, and either continuously or intermittently, e.g., alternately, upon a common optical image plane; and comparing the images on the image plane. The apparatus comprises suitable optical elements for carrying out these steps using either a single laser light source or such a light source together with a conventional light source.

    • A method and apparatus are disclosed for recording information by deformation on a recording material having a photoconductive thermoplastic layer supported by a flexible transparent backing layer, characterized by the provision of electrostatic attraction means for stabilizing the recording material against lateral displacement during the continuous transport of the recording material through an exposure station. To this end, there are provided corona means for electrostatically charging the recording material prior to the transport thereof through the exposure station, and a stationary conductive layer of a given potential is arranged beneath the recording material opposite the charging and exposure stations, whereby the charged recording material is attracted to the conductive layer. A further conductive layer of given potential may be provided for stabilizing the charged recording medium during transport through a read-out station. Laterally flanged guide roller means are also provided for laterally stabilizing the recording material during transport between the supply and take-up reels.
