    • A tunable radio frequency (RF) filter is provided. The RF filter comprises a signal transmission path having an input and an output, a plurality of resonant elements disposed along the signal transmission path between the input and the output, and a plurality of non-resonant elements coupling the resonant elements together. The resonant elements are coupled together to form a stop band having a plurality of transmission zeroes corresponding to respective frequencies of the resonant elements, and at least one sub-band between the transmission zeroes. The non-resonant elements comprise at least one variable non-resonant element for selectively introducing at least one reflection zero within the stop band to create a pass band in one of the sub-bands(s). The variable non-resonant element(s) may be configured for displacing the reflection zero(es) along the stop band to selectively move the pass band within the one sub-band or within selected ones of the sub-bands.

Embodiments may also include design techniques for planar electric signal (e.g., RF signals) filter tuning. In at least an embodiment of the present invention a technique for filter tuning is provided which may include parameter extraction, optimization and tuning recipes techniques that may require only a single permanent filter tuning. In at least another embodiment a system and method of filter design, analysis and adjustment according to the present invention includes use of tuning that may be set using a mechanical scribing tool or a laser trimming device. In at least one other embodiment, a filter tuning technique may be provided and include providing trimming tabs on a resonator edge that may be disconnected or trimmed for filter tuning.

    • A tunable radio frequency (RF) filter is provided. The RF filter comprises a signal transmission path having an input and an output, a plurality of resonant elements disposed along the signal transmission path between the input and the output, and a plurality of non-resonant elements coupling the resonant elements together. The resonant elements are coupled together to form a stop band having a plurality of transmission zeroes corresponding to respective frequencies of the resonant elements, and at least one sub-band between the transmission zeroes.     • A filter for filtering electrical signals comprises a substrate and a plurality of resonators formed circularly to surround the center of the substrate. Each resonator has an arcuate part at a radially outermost part and a pair of linear parts extending from ends of the arcuate part in a radially inward direction. The arcuate part is located at the same distance from the center of the substrate. The linear parts of each resonator have different lengths from each other thereby to provide a sharp decrease of gain at ends of the frequency passband in a filtering response.

    • A filter has a plurality of resonators formed regularly on a substrate and made of a superconducting material. In measuring resonance frequency of the resonators, the filter and a conductive metal plate having an opening are placed in a vacuum chamber so that all the resonators other than one resonator which faces the opening are covered with the metal plate. The metal plate has an input probe and an output probe at the opening of the metal plate. The resonance frequency of each resonator is measured in sequence while rotating the metal plate. Each resonator is adjusted in shape by a laser trimming or providing a dielectric film in correspondence with the measured resonance frequency so that all the resonators have a fixed resonance frequency.
