    • Peptides having the carboxyl terminated sequence of the pancreozymin-cholstokinin 25-33 modified such that the amino acid group 25 carries a strongly basic group, the amino acid group 28 exhibits a hydrophilic character similar to that of the hydroxyamino acids and the amino acid group 31 exhibits a strongly hydrophobic character similar to that of amino acids with aliphatic side chains, and in particular nonapeptides having the sequence H--X--Asp--Tyr(SO.sub.3 H)--Y--Gly--Trp--Z--Asp--Phe--NH.sub.2 wherein X is arginine, homoarginine, norarginine, N.sub..epsilon.,N.sub..epsilon. -dialkyllysine, N.sub..delta. or N.sub..delta. -dialkyl-ornithine, Y is threonine, serine or hydroxy-proline and Z is norleucine, leucine, norvaline or .alpha.-amino-butyric acid, possess pronounced pancreozymin activity and can be employed in pharmaceutical preparations for controlling the function of the gall bladder and for controlling the enzyme secretion of the pancreas. Tyrosine-O-sulfate-barium salt and its N-acyl derivatives can be used as intermediate products for the preparation of peptides. For introducing the amino acid group 27 an N-acyltyrosine is reacted with an excess of pyridine--SO.sub.3 in a polar organic solvent, the resulting solution is extracted with water, the barium salt of the N-acyl-tyrosine-O-sulfate is precipitated from the aqueous phase by addition of a soluble barium compound, possibly the acyl group is split off in conventional manner, and the resulting tyrosine-O-sulfate-barium salt or its acyl derivative are processed employing the usual methods of peptide synthesis.

    • A remote-controlled rear-view mirror assembly having a mirror is movably supported in a housing and can be adjusted by an electric motor from a remote point. An electric motor is mounted in the mirror housing and has an electrically reversible direction of rotation and a stepdown gearing. There is a drive shaft having approximately at its center a driven coaxial cylinder of enlarged diameter with respect to the diameter of the drive shaft and a central annular shoulder dividing the coaxial cylinder into two substantially equal sections. A slipping clutch connects the motor with the drive shaft. Two eccentrics are rotatably mounted on the drive shaft on opposite sides respectively of the equal sections of the coaxial cylinder, each of these eccentrics comprises a cylindrical section and an eccentric disc. There are two wrap springs each of these wrap springs being wound in the same direction partly on one of the two equal sections and partly on one of the two cylindrical section of the eccentrics respectively. A transmission means connects the eccentric discs respectively to the mirror.

    • A process for determining the pH value in the interior of a cell is descrd. This is accomplished by measurement of the emission of a fluorescent substance which is absorbed by the cell through incubation in a solution. The solution contains a compound of the said fluorescent substance; the fluorescent substance is separated from this compound in the cell by an enzyme present in the cell. The fluorescent substance selected is one such that the frequency of the emission maximum is dependent on the pH value. The compound of this fluorescent substance which is selected is one which is membrane penetrating. Measurement of the fluorescence is based on the principle of measurement of the frequency at which the emission maximum occurs. A fluorescent substance suitable for this purpose is 2,3-dicyano-1,4-hydroquinone. A suitable membrane penetrating compound is 1,4-diacetoxy-2,3-dicyanobenzene or 1,4-dibutyryloxy-2,3-dicyanobenzene or 1,4-di(-tert-butyloxycarbonyl-1-alanyloxy)-2,3-dicyanobenzene.

    • This invention relates to an apparatus providing rapid adjustment of a mirror which is pivotable about a vertical axis and retained in a housing, especially a vehicle rear view mirror, whereby the mirror is operated by an actuator having movement separated from the axis of rotation of the mirror itself and causing the mirror to rotate beyond its preset adjustment position through a preset angle, the mirror retaining contact which the actuator by means of a spring element. Movement of the actuator is controlled by a rotatable operating disk having a peripheral control curve. As the operating disk rotates, it passes through a movement arc which determines the movement of the actuator and the pivot angle of the mirror; this arc is followed by a rest phase arc which determines the final adjustment position of the actuator and the mirror; this arc is followed by a return arc which controls the return of the mirror and the actuator to their initial adjustment positions; the duration, extent and limits of the pivoting movement are all controlled by the configuration of the operating disk.
