    • A selective all wheel drive powertrain has an engine and transaxle adapted to normally drive the front wheels of a vehicle. A transfer gear set, drive shaft, clutch and differential are connectable between the output of transaxle and the rear wheels of the vehicle to selectively provide an all wheel drive system. A pump, which supplies the fluid pressure to engage the clutch, has a pair of relatively rotatable members that are connected to rotate in unison with opposite sides of the clutch such that when the valve is operated, the clutch will be engaged. A selectively operable valve is disposed between a reservoir and the pump and controlled in actuation by the vehicle traction control system (TCS) to connect the pump to the reservoir when a loss of traction is sensed by the TCS. The clutch is effectively controlled by the selectively operable valve that supplies the fluid to the pump. The clutch is disposed in the drive path between the drive shaft and the differential with one set of clutch plates being connected to rotate with the drive shaft and another set of clutch plates being connected to rotate with the input to the differential. The pump has one member rotatable with the drive shaft side of the clutch and another member rotatable with the differential side of the clutch.

    • A multichannel radiotelephony system provides two way cordless communications with a plurality of multichannel transceivers portable within a coverage area comprised by a plurality of cells, each associated with a base station and antennas, such as to permit channel frequency reuse in cells within the coverage area. For at least part of the coverage area, the locations of the antennas within the cells and the locations of the base stations are independently mapped, the antennas being associated with active antenna systems and the active antenna systems being connected to the base stations utilizing broadband transmission by means of a fixed bi-directional signal distribution network. The network is connected to the base stations and the antenna systems through suitable interfaces incorporating frequency translation so that available frequency bands in the signal distribution network which will normally be shared with other services, may be utilised. Plural base stations may be co-located. The radio link to the transceivers may be frequency or time division multiplexed, but communication over the network will normally be frequency multiplexed, using separate bands for transmission and reception.

    • A method of forming a cohort for use in identification of an individual by comparing a model of characteristics of the individual, such as a model of utterances, with models of the cohort including a model for the client in respect of whom it is desired to test whether the individual is identifiable. Models related to the population excluding the client are tested to determine whether they meet an acceptance threshold test as to identify with a model for the client. Then, from each meeting the threshold test, it is determined whether those models are distributed so as to present at least a substantial probability that models for nonmembers of the population spaced from the client model in all directions will each be closer to a member of the cohort, excluding the client, than to the client. If that probability is less than a predetermined value, a selection is made from the population of another cohort member which will reduce that probability. Alternatively, if the mentioned probability is less than the predetermined value, a "phantom" model is generated for inclusion in the population and which will reduce that probability. The method may employ both the described selection and "phantom" generation techniques.
