    • A sootblower isolation wall box provided for sealing the wall box opening of a large scale boiler to provide sootblower lance tube access to the boiler. The wall box assembly includes a clamping seal assembly having radial sealing segments which are individually actuated. Applying fluid pressure to actuating cylinders causes the seal segments to be clamped against the outer circumference of the sootblower lance tube. During cleaning cycles, the segments are actuated to provide a radial clearance with the lance tube. Preferably, the clamping seal assembly is used in connection with another seal assembly which is relied upon to provide sealing during the cleaning steps. In a preferred embodiment, the additional seal assembly is in the form of a labyrinth-type seal assembly.

    • A tri-sector regenerative oxidant preheater apparatus, method and arrangement for utilization with oxy-fired pulverized coal combustion power plants. The preheater includes a stationary housing and a rotor rotatably mounted in the housing. Sector plates are located at the axial ends of the rotor and divide the preheater into a flue gas sector, two primary oxidant sectors, and a secondary oxidant sector interposed between the two primary oxidant sectors. A primary oxidant fan is located downstream of the preheater to create a negative environment in the primary oxidant sectors. During operation of the preheater, the environments of the two primary oxidant sectors and the flue gas sector are at about the same negative pressure, and thus there is very limited leakage between the oxidant side and the flue gas side of the preheater. The environment of the secondary oxidant sector is at a positive pressure and leakage to the negative environment of the primary oxidant sectors will be that of secondary oxidant to primary oxidant with no loss secondary oxidant to the gas side of the preheater.

    • A method and apparatus for pressure testing a large vessel utilizing a base enclosure having a base ring of the same diameter as the pressure vessel. The base enclosure includes a base plate welded to the base ring and beams under the base plate for supporting the weight of the base enclosure as well as the portion of the vessel to be tested. The vessel is fabricated in or divided into half portions with each portion being connected to a base ring for separate testing. This eliminates the excessive weight that would be experienced if the vessel were to be pressure tested as one unit, particularly in the case of hydrotesting where the vessel is filled with water.

    • A support device and structure for supporting horizontal tubes of a conventional or fluidized bed steam generator comprising a vertical tube for carrying plural pairs of support brackets. Each support bracket has a central sleeve with a pair of opposite extending tube hooks that taper in width from the sleeve, outwardly to an end of the tube hook. The ends of the tube hooks for each pair of support brackets extend toward each other, but are maintained at a distance from one another to avoid the accumulation of ash or other bed material. Welded-on nubs along the length of the support tube localize the axial position of the bracket pairs.
