摘要： Techniques are described for facilitating the awarding of prizes in chance-based contests in various ways, such as chance-based contests which are part of promotional advertising, etc. In at least some embodiments, the techniques include facilitating the awarding of prizes at the time a contestant enter or plays the contests, while awarding a selected number of prizes, which may be determined before the contest starts. In at least some embodiments, the techniques include employing an award counter to control awarding of prizes in a chance-based contest. For example, an award counter may be incremented at random or pseudo-random times. In at least some embodiments, the contest is associated with a location-based virtual group of users that has one or more associated geographical areas.

The method aspect of the invention comprises receiving a live video program, generating an index to the received live video program by extracting images and/or text from the video program, recording the live video program, presenting at least a portion of data associated with the generated index to a user, receiving user input regarding a portion of the recorded video program to which the user desires to navigate and playing back the recorded video program starting at the navigated portion identified by the user input.

There is provided a method for providing a composite presentation, comprising displaying a plurality of elemental presentations including a first presentation and a second presentation to provide the composite presentation, wherein the displaying of the second presentation makes at least a first portion of the first presentation become unrecognizable to a human eye viewing the composite presentation without a use of a visual aid. This rendering of the first presentation as unrecognizable to the human eye may be accomplished through filtering techniques such as one or more of optical polarization, shuttering, depth of field alteration, light intensity alteration, light angle alteration, anaglyph filters, and other filtering techniques.

A translation module including at least one language pair module for translating a source language to a target language may be made available for use by a subscriber. The subscriber may be charged a fee for use of the requested on demand translation service or may be provided use of the on demand translation service for free in exchange for displaying commercial messages to the subscriber. A video signal may be received including information in the source language, which may be obtained as text from the video signal and may be translated from the source language to the target language by use of the translation module. Translated information, based on the translated text, may be added into the received video signal. The video signal including the translated information in the target language may be sent to a display device.
