    • Protection against refrigeration compressor burnout by short cycling is provided by a time delay switching mechanism having a motor and a solenoid controlled by a room thermostat. The motor runs continuously and the solenoid stops and starts the timer by stalling or releasing the timer gear. The timer gear has teeth omitted at the stalling points to allow the motor to run free. A starter cam follower bearing on a starter cam serves to start the timer gear when released by the solenoid. The solenoid operates the stalling and switch control mechanism through a compound leverage and camming system compensating for the non-linear pull curve of the solenoid. The device also includes a combination cam and latch operated switch in which one switch blade carries a follower lifting another blade which is then held by the latch when the follower drops to close the switch. A manual operator is provided for closing the switch independently of the timing mechanism. This manual operator is released automatically by the solenoid dropping out when the thermostat becomes satisfied. The timer also includes an arrangement for locking the compressor switch closed for a period of time when it first closes to allow the system to settle down and thus avoid short cycling.

    • An adjustable automatic reset pushbutton timer in which a knob is rotated to set the timing and is pushed to start the time cycles. The knob shaft carries a spring return timing cam and an adjustable stop which sets the starting point. At the end of the cycle a lobe on the cam raises a pair of switch blades with the contacts closed and then drops one while holding the other, opening the contacts. Pushing the knob in first releases a sliding gear type clutch and then moves the cam off the sides of the switch blades, allowing them to drop, and the cam to reset. Closure of the contacts is delayed until the pushbutton knob is released by an axial latch which moves under one blade when the knob is pushed.

    • A timing device controls a group of electric heaters, turning them on in sequence in response to call for heat by a thermostat and turning them off in sequence when the call for heat is satisfied. The timer has two stopping points, one with the heaters off and the other with the heaters on. A single switch controls the timer motor and is opened by a timer can at the off and on positions. The switch is held open at the off position by an off latch and at the on position by an on latch. These latches are released by a solenoid controlled by the room thermostat. The latches are also controlled by a timer cam, the off latch being held released when the timer is in the on position, and the on latch being held out at the off position. The load switches for the heaters are also opened instantly by a second solenoid responding to an unfavorable condition. This same action releases the on latch to cause the timer to return to the off position.
