    • A method for automatically adjusting chrominance data of an input pixel from a color video signal includes receiving and temporarily storing the chrominance data of the input pixel in a transmission format comprising a color difference representation and converting the chrominance data from the color difference representation in Cartesian coordinates to color hue and color saturation representation in polar coordinates such that color attributes of the input pixel can be analyzed according to hue and saturation values. The method also includes determining a hue adjustment value and a saturation adjustment value based on the color hue value and color saturation value associated with the chrominance data, applying the hue adjustment and the saturation adjustment directly to the chrominance data in its transmission format, and outputting the adjusted chrominance data to an output color video signal.

Each of the first and second one-dimensional image scalers includes a reconfigurable interpolation unit that allows each single-stage FIR filter structure to switch back and forth between operating in a direct-form FIR filter mode and a transposed-form FIR filter mode while using a fixed set of system resources such that a wide range of image magnification and reduction scaling factors can be achieved using the fixed set of system resources.

    • An image brightness and contrast management module for automatically adjusting brightness and contrast of an input video signal includes a histogram generation unit that generates a pixel luminance histogram based on pixel luminance values in a frame, whereby the histogram shows a distribution of luminance values in the frame and indicates the dynamic range and the dominant luminance value(s) for the frame. The module includes a histogram characterization unit that uses the pixel luminance histogram to identify which of a plurality of brightness/contrast properties is exhibited in the frame. The module also includes a brightness and contrast adjustment unit that nonlinearly adjusts, in real-time, the pixel luminance values in a next frame based on the identified brightness/contrast properties exhibited in the preceding frame. In this manner, bright or dark dominant areas of an image are stretched to enhance the contrast of the dominant luminance values without blackening the darker portions or saturating the brighter portions of the image.

    • A method for automatically detecting and suppressing cross-color and cross-luma present in a baseband component video signal includes receiving component pixel data of a current pixel, a first previous pixel and a second previous pixel. First, second and third differences are calculated based on the component pixel data of the current, first previous and second previous pixels, and the presence of cross-luma and/or cross-color is determined for the current pixel based on an absolute value of at least one of the first, the second and the third differences. A per pixel count associated with the component pixel data of the current pixel is determined based on the determined presence of at least one of cross-luma and cross-color, and the component pixel data of the current pixel is modified based on the per pixel count. The modified component pixel data of the current pixel is outputted as a corrected output color video signal, where the corrected output color video signal is substantially without visual artifacts caused by the at least one of cross-luma and cross-color.
